Description

The Maintenance Manager for the Merom Generating Station provides strategic, operational, and safety leadership for all maintenance activities supporting a 1,080 MW coal-fired steam generating facility. This role oversees mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation maintenance functions to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient plant performance. Responsibilities include execution of preventive and corrective maintenance, outage planning, environmental and regulatory compliance, and workforce development, all aligned with corporate objectives and grid reliability requirements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Ensure plant equipment performance meets targets for availability, cost, heat rate, safety, and environmental compliance.
  • Align maintenance and operations through integrated planning and execution of work management processes.
  • Lead and improve preventive and corrective maintenance programs to ensure timely, cost-effective execution.
  • Oversee outage planning and execution to meet safety, budget, schedule, and quality expectations.
  • Ensure full compliance with EPA permits, NERC/FERC reliability standards, and other regulatory requirements.
  • Lead preparation, validation, and submission of environmental and compliance reports.
  • Monitor, verify, and analyze compliance data, including emissions, sampling, and operational metrics.
  • Identify and address non-compliance risks; develop and implement corrective action plans.
  • Serve as Subject Matter Expert during NERC/RRO audits and regulatory reviews.
  • Develop and maintain policies, procedures, and compliance documentation.
  • Provide leadership, direction, and performance management for cross-functional teams.
  • Enforce company policies, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Resolve employee issues, support labor relations, and foster a positive work environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or related field) or equivalent technical experience.
  • Minimum 7-10 years of experience in power plant maintenance or operations, preferably in coal-fired or steam cycle generating facilities.
  • Strong working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation systems, including boilers, turbines, generators, emissions control systems, and distributed control systems (DCS).
  • Demonstrated experience leading maintenance teams in a high-reliability, industrial environment with a strong focus on safety and performance.
  • Proven ability to plan and execute preventive and corrective maintenance programs, including outage planning and execution.
  • Experience with environmental and regulatory compliance requirements, including EPA standards and familiarity with NERC/FERC reliability expectations.
  • Strong understanding of maintenance planning and work management processes, including scheduling, resource allocation, and continuous improvement practices.
  • Financial acumen with experience developing and managing departmental budgets, cost control, and capital planning.
  • Effective leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage employee relations and drive team engagement.
  • Familiarity with collective bargaining agreements (CBAs) and experience working in a unionized environment preferred.
  • Ability to perform physical duties including climbing, lifting up to 50 lbs., and working in industrial plant conditions.
