Full Job Description
Utilities Technician

This position is a new role for our candy manufacturing location at 725 Steeles E in Milton. You will be part of a growing team, focused on safety, quality, teamwork and excellence in all that we do.

Hours/Shifts - 40 hours/week; Hiring for Monday-Friday, 6:30am-2:30pm. Flexible working on other shifts and support on call as required.

Wage$45.70

Key responsibilities

  • Operation and maintenance of steam generators (or Steam boilers) and associated steam distribution systems, air compressors, chillers, , chilled water systems, wastewater treatment systems, refrigeration systems, drying systems and, plant HVAC. These duties include:
  • Daily/weekly water quality testing (TDS, hardness, chemical dosing)
  • Operating, cleaning repairing and adjusting wastewater pH and BOD blending system
  • Ensuring proper condensate return and steam trap functionality
  • Performing start-up and shutdown procedures safely
  • Managing blowdown procedures
  • Monitoring feedwater system, pumps, softeners, or RO systems
  • Knowledge of TSSA requirements and safe operation practices
  • Strong understanding of Lockout/Tagout and pressure system safety
  • Ability to perform documentation and recordkeeping for steam system logs
  • Demonstrated solid communication and interpersonal skills in a team-based work environment
  • Responsible for the overall operation and maintenance of Plant utilities
  • Knowledgeable and an advocate with regards to Safety practices and OHS.
  • Ability to develop and implement operating procedures and maintenance plans
  • Ability to develop and drive an energy reduction program
  • Ability to develop and implement standard operating procedures and maintenance plans
  • Perform preventative maintenance on all utilities equipment as assigned in a safe manner
  • Closing, updating and recording all work orders in the plant CMMS system
  • Perform maintenance work on operations equipment as needed


Job Requirements
  • Valid diploma from a college or technical school
  • Hands-on experience with steam generators, steam distribution systems, condensate return, compressed air systems, and HVAC equipment.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • SAP experience would be an asset.
  • Understanding and commitment to a CI (Continuous Improvement) Culture.
  • Requires standing, walking, reaching and bending for periods of time across all areas of the facility. Ability to lift up to 30lbs in a safe manner.
  • Work at heights, on ladders and in hot and cold environments is required.
  • Reliable attendance and punctuality; flexibility in work schedule to accommodate business requirements
  • Must have Utility experience such as Boilers, chillers, compressor, changing valves, steam traps
  • Minimum 5 years relevant working experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably in the food industry
  • Refrigeration, gas, steam or Piper fitter license would be considered an asset
  • Familiarity with HACCP regulations would be an asset
  • 3rd level power engineer experience as an asset
  • Must have Millwright license 433A
