Job Description

We are seeking a strong, people-centered leader to serve as our Maintenance and Engineering Manager in both our Battery RESS and Paint Shop areas. In this role, you will lead a large group of salaried maintenance group leaders and technical support personnel responsible for project evaluation, planning and timing, operations, and the maintenance and repair of plant equipment and facilities.

This position requires a high level of technical judgment, creativity, and discernment in decision-making. The successful candidate will work independently within the limits of GMS while driving results across Safety, People, Quality, Responsiveness, Cost, and Environment (SPQRCE). This role also carries significant responsibility for developing people, training others, and building a high-performing organization.
Key Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership and direction to the engineering team
  • Lead the maintenance and repair of plant equipment and facilities
  • Specify project requirements, planning, and timing
  • Set strategy, solve problems, and establish schedule and quality expectations
  • Manage one or more departments where work requires technical expertise, sound judgment, and independent decision-making
  • Ensure compliance with local and national labor agreements
  • Implement divisional and corporate policies, as well as safety and housekeeping practices
  • Collaborate frequently with partners outside the immediate work group
  • Communicate effectively with plant leadership and staff
  • Drive the effective use of personnel, materials, and equipment
  • Lead the selection of new employees and support training, development, and performance evaluation
  • Establish clear courses of action to complete jobs and projects successfully
  • Manage multiple complex projects and assignments with a high level of autonomy and accountability
  • Demonstrate initiative by improving output and supporting others beyond assigned work
  • Apply strong project management skills and coach direct reports for improved performance
  • Create and manage budgets and forecasts within the assigned area
  • Build and apply deep knowledge of GMS principles in daily operations and decision-making
