Major Duties/Responsibilities:Reliability & maintenance engineering
- Develop/optimize PM/PdM/CBM strategies (intervals, task lists, acceptance criteria).
- Lead RCA (5-Why, fishbone, fault tree) and drive corrective/preventive actions.
- Define reliability KPIs and dashboards (MTBF, MTTR, downtime, OEE) and use them to prioritize work.
CMMS, asset data, and spares
- Support asset hierarchy, BOMs, critical spares strategy, reorder points, kitting.
- Improve work order quality (failure codes, problem/cause/action, time, parts).
Planning, procedures, and safety
- Create job plans, LOTO steps, commissioning/verification checklists, calibration/inspection requirements.
- Ensure compliance with ORNL/DOE safety, QA, and configuration control requirements.
Troubleshooting support
- Provide engineering support for complex failures across mechanical/electrical/instrumentation.
- Coordinate with technicians, vendors, and engineers to restore equipment and prevent recurrence.
- May perform hands-on troubleshooting/repair as needed

Basic Qualifications:- BS in Mechanical, Electrical, or related; 5+ years relevant experience in industrial/research maintenance/reliability.
- Demonstrated experience building/improving PM/PdM programs and using a CMMS (name common systems if applicable).
- Experience with vacuum systems (installation, leak checking, pump maintenance, gauges/valves).
- Ability to analyze failures and implement corrective actions (RCA evidence).
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Q clearance which requires US Citizenship
Preferred Qualifications:- Professional certification in maintenance or reliability engineering.
- Experience with high voltage systems and power supplies.
- Experience with Lean/Six Sigma.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently and to participate creatively in collaborative teams across the laboratory.
- Ability to function well in a fast-paced research environment, set priorities to accomplish multiple tasks within deadlines, and adapt to ever changing needs.
- Active DOE Q security clearance or the ability to obtain one.
Special Requirements:- Work involves various physical requirements and working conditions. As such, a pre-hire physical will be required after offer.
- This position requires access to technology that is subject to export control requirements. Successful candidates must be qualified for such access without an export control license.
- This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a clearance from the Department of Energy. As such, this position is a Workplace Substance Abuse (WSAP) testing designated position. WSAP positions require passing a pre-placement drug test and participation in an ongoing random drug testing program.
