Title: Maintenance Control Technician (1st Shift)
Salary Range: $39.02

Status: Non-Exempt
Days/Shifts: 1st Shift
Location: Bessemer City, NC
Reports to: Maintenance Manager


GENERAL DESCRIPTION / PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Responsible for analyzing, researching and supporting the process control system of the company.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS / DUTIES OF THE POSITION:
  • Maintain and troubleshoot all PLC and operator interface programs in use at the Bessemer City facility
  • Review and update controls drawings and P&Ids
  • Provide options for controls instrumentation solutions and make recommendations
  • Responsible for developing and reviewing control system strategies
  • Technical resource for instrumentation and controls
  • Write equipment control specifications
  • Plant liaison for all controls vendor
  • Perform controls related project management tasks for small to medium size projects involving either new or existing equipment
  • Provide controls engineering support and training to the Bessemer City facility and other DFV locations if needed
JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES:
  • EXPERIENCE: Associate in electrical or Electronic Engineering Technology, Controls Engineering or similar field or minimum of 6 years of experience with PLC programming, control system design or similar work.
  • SKILLS: Demonstrated technical aptitude ability to apply engineering principles, ability to learn in a fast-paced environment and willingness to be a team player. Proficient in the use of common software packages including all Microsoft office programs. Basic skills in auto cad for updating control drawings. Must be able to understand process requirements. Proficient and effective communicator both written and verbal.
  • ADDITIONAL: Hands-on ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented food processing environment. Required to work independently and with limited supervision. Must be able to maintain regular and acceptable attendance, follow directions, interact well with co-workers, understand and follow posted work rules/ procedures. Must be flexible with the ability to work any shift as workload demands.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Work is performed in a cool environment with an average temperature of 34 degrees F. Concentrated chlorine and concealed ammonia is present. Work surfaces and floors may be wet. Employees are required to wear approved shoes and protective equipment. Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs. unassisted up to 1/3 of the workday, and 6 lbs. overhead as job demands. Constant standing on a concrete floor, reaching, bending, stooping, and repetitive hand movements may be required. Moving machinery, including conveyor and forklifts are in operation in the immediate area. Please be aware that our workplace environment may contain or encounter common allergens, such as Milk, Peanuts, Egg, Fish, Shellfish, Tree Nuts, Wheat, Soybeans, Sesame, Mustard and Sulfites.

WORK HOUR & TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to work overtime as needed. Some weekends are required.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:
Associate in Electrical or Electronic Engineering Technology, Controls Engineering or similar field or minimum of 6 years of experience with PLC programming, control system design or similar work.
