Responsibilities

Work Schedule:

Sunday - Saturday, 8.5 hour shifts (Days/Evenings/Nights)Occasional HolidayNO CALL!

 

Job Specific Position Duties: The duties include, but are not limited to the following:

 

• Performs advanced, complex research evaluation of new imaging methods and techniques utilizing MRI principles. Technologist is responsible for all magnetic resonance imaging techniques, patient care, and operation of advanced imaging and MR procedure/therapy equipment, as well as performing post-processing imaging and calculations as required for each study. MRI scanning is an advanced area of radiologic imaging and requires advanced knowledge of MRI physics, cross sectional anatomy and patient safety.• Technologist works independently performing non-routine, specialized procedures with responsibility for protocols and patient care. Estimates and reports time, maintains records of work accomplishments and time expended, and prepares production reports. Assures timely completion of work. Keeps in touch with the status and progress of work throughout the entire clinic and makes day-to-day adjustments as necessary in order to work efficiently in a facility with multiple MR scanners spread out across the hospital. Maintains current knowledge of MRI procedures and answers questions of other employees on procedures, policies, directives, etc. Checks on work in progress, or spot checks work not requiring review (e.g., filing, or direct services), and reviews completed work to see that supervisor’s instruction on work sequence, procedures, methods and deadlines have been met.• Independently performs complex computerized 3D and 3D magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanning of the head and/or body. Required to have knowledge of various computerized health care platforms for patient care and archival/retrieval of images. Receives patients, explains method of procedure, positions patients, screens and educates patients regarding the risks/benefits of the procedure and produces images necessary for the examination requested. Also assists with quality control and improvement activities.• Performs magnetic resonance imaging of heads, spines, extremities, and bodies. Explains methods and safety precautions of procedures, starts IV's when needed, positions patient and produces necessary images for the requested examination. Assists in the triage of scheduling patients. Works within patients, emergency cases and outpatients.• Confers with the radiologist to establish the requirements for non-standard examinations, and imaging parameters best suited for demonstrating specific pathologies on a case-by-case basis. Technical advice is offered in cases when examination parameters chosen by the radiologist may compromise the quality of the exam. Notifies the radiologist(s) or physician(s) of significant scans requiring immediate attention and visualization while patient is undergoing examination. Advises radiologist of any additional information pertaining to the patient’s condition and/or scanning that may be beneficial. Provides suggestions to the radiologist regarding the establishment of imaging parameters best suited for demonstrating specific pathology for the more difficult examinations. Administers emergency medicinal injections under the direction of the physician in charge. Oversees the use of various emergency equipment such as cardiac defibrillators, oxygen, and suction.• May participate in establishing, performing, and maintaining quality assurance program. Monitors scanner and computers for any malfunction so corrective actions can be taken. Makes minor adjustments of equipment such as setting up wedges. Maintains permanent records of scans on optical disks and picture archive and communication system (PACS). Retrieves images from PACS and sends images to the radiologist or referring physician for diagnostic evaluation.• Obtains assistance from the supervisor on problems such as any required equipment repairs or other patient related reports. Assists in the design and planning of MRI-related research projects. • May instructs fellow staff member in new procedures and provides ongoing guidance for problem/unusual cases in his/her area of expertise. Provide training to new employees, students and residents/fellows rotating in MRI in accordance with established procedures and practices but is not ultimately responsible and accountable for the individual progress. May not be responsible for the clinical direction of residents/fellow and students.• Ensures proper maintenance of the MRI scanner, accessory equipment, and the clinical area.• Assist in the instruction on the proper use and methods associated with the scanner and their associated software. Explains images to permanent and visiting physicians, contribute to training residents, interns, fellows and technologists if needed. • Performs other duties as assigned.• Recognize situations requiring patient resuscitation due to cardiac or respiratory arrest and institute the necessary emergency measures.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

* Education: Graduate from an academic program accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT).* Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience as an MRI Tech

* Licensure: Certified in MRI by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT)

* Life Support Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) 

* Security: Must be able to pass a Government background check and obtain a Government security clearance.

 

Pay Scale: $51.31/hr – 65.00/hr, to be determined based on qualifications, experience, and location.
