Akicita Federal is hiring Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN) to deliver direct patient care to our nation's Veterans through the VA Hudson Valley Healthcare System in Montrose, NY. In this role, you will work alongside a dedicated clinical team to provide compassionate, high-quality nursing support in a federally operated healthcare environment. - Provide direct bedside nursing care to Veteran patients, supporting their physical comfort, safety, and recovery under the supervision of registered nurses and physicians.
- Administer medications and treatments in accordance with established clinical protocols and provider orders.
- Monitor and document patient vital signs, observations, and changes in condition, escalating concerns to the appropriate clinical staff promptly.
- Assist with wound care, catheter care, IV maintenance, and other clinical procedures as directed by the care team.
- Coordinate with interdisciplinary care teams-including physicians, RNs, social workers, and therapists-to support individualized patient care plans.
- Educate patients and their families on discharge instructions, medication adherence, and self-care practices in clear, accessible language.
- Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation in the VA's electronic health record system in compliance with facility standards and policies.
$79,040 - $83,200 a year
- Active, unrestricted Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license in the state of New York or a Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) state that is recognized for practice in New York.
- Current clinical skills appropriate to the LPN scope of practice, including medication administration, vital signs monitoring, wound care, and patient documentation.
- Ability to work within a federally operated healthcare environment and adhere to VA policies, HIPAA requirements, and patient privacy regulations.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact respectfully and effectively with Veterans, families, and multidisciplinary care teams.
What sets candidates apart:
- Prior experience working in a VA Medical Center or other federal healthcare facility serving Veteran populations.
- Familiarity with VA electronic health record systems (e.g., VistA or Oracle Health/Cerner).
- Experience in a long-term care, rehabilitation, or acute inpatient nursing setting.
- BLS/CPR certification (American Heart Association) that is current at the time of hire.
