The Opportunity:

Make your mark while you grow your career! Are you passionate about mine planning and eager to make an impact at a top-tier oil sands operation? We're looking for a talented Mine Planning Engineer to join our Albian Long Range Mine Planning team. In this role, you'll play a critical part in developing and optimizing integrated mine plans while collaborating with cross-functional teams such as technical experts, operations staff, and regulatory stakeholders to support strategic mine development and maximize asset value.
  • Job location: Calgary, Alberta
  • Shift schedule: 5x2, 8-hour shifts (Monday-Friday)
  • Safety sensitive position: Yes

Key Accountabilities:
  • Mine Planning & Optimization - Collaborate with key stakeholders across operations, geotechnical, geology, tailings, and regulatory teams to develop detailed mine plans and enable efficient operations at the Albian oil sands site. Oversee mine design projects including pit walls, haul roads, dumps, and dyke structures to ensure alignment with strategic goals
  • Life-of-Mine Planning, Closure & Regulatory Support - Lead the development of Albian's life-of-mine plans and assess alternative strategies to maximize long-term value and sustainability. Contribute to the development and evolution of mine closure plans and assist in the preparation of supporting regulatory submissions
  • Mining Model Management & Performance Reporting - Maintain and update mining models and engineering designs to ensure accuracy and consistency with operational requirements. Monitor, analyze, and report on mine performance metrics, providing insights and identifying opportunities for continuous improvement
  • Value Optimization & Engineering Standards Implementation - Drive value creation by optimizing the integrated mine plan, with a focus on reducing operating and capital costs. Support the implementation and continuous improvement of mine engineering standards, systems, and processes to ensure technical excellence and operational consistency

What You Bring to the Role:
  • Degree in Mining, Civil, or Geological Engineering
  • Registered or eligible for registration with APEGA is required
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in open-pit mining or oil sands operations
  • Experience with mine design software such as Vulcan, Deswik, and CAD
  • Strong understanding of fleet management, oil sands geology, mine planning, and mining economics
  • Possess a valid Class 5 driver's license with no driving restrictions
