Job Description

The Arlington County Fire Department (ACFD) is seeking a Logistics Manager to oversee the administrative and operational functions of the Logistics Section. This position manages contracts, purchasing, purchase orders, inventory, and financial activities, assists with annual operating budget development, and ensures the timely availability and distribution of supplies and equipment to meet the needs of the Fire Department.

Responsibilities

Major Job Duties:
  • Coordinating and overseeing ACFD purchasing activities, including evaluating contracts and asset/inventory management system changes;
  • Overseeing supply deliveries to ensure accurate receipt and accountability of materials and equipment;
  • Monitoring inventory tracking systems and managing the reverse distribution of expired or damaged equipment;
  • Forecasting supply and budget needs and coordinating with Finance on supply chain accounting;
  • Managing purchase orders and related procurement activities;
  • Participating in project planning for future initiatives and efficient deployment of resources;
  • Documenting purchases and credits, managing invoicing processes, and assisting with annual operating budget development;
  • Supporting ACFD logistics operations, including station, equipment, and EMS uniform supply; and
  • Performing other job-related duties as assigned.

The ideal candidate will have experience with government procurement and purchasing processes, strong interpersonal communication skills, and a working knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local regulations, including OSHA, NFPA, and VDFP standards.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Public/Business Administration, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Finance, or related field; and
  • Considerable experience in program/contract administration, procurement, budgeting, logistics, inventory management, and/or related operational support functions.

Substitution: Additional qualifying experience can be substituted for the educational requirement. A Master's degree or higher may be substituted for some of the experience requirement.

Desirable Qualifications: Preference may be given to applicants with experience in one or more of the following:
  • Government procurement processes;
  • Fire/EMS or Public Safety logistics;
  • Utilizing enterprise procurement or inventory systems;
  • Understanding and navigating OSHA, NFPA, VDFP, and other regulatory standards;
  • Hospital or medical warehouse inventory/supply operations.


Special Requirements

Background Check: A pre-employment criminal records check will be conducted. Driver's License: Applicant must possess, or obtain by time of appointment, a valid driver's license, and must provide or authorize Arlington County to obtain a copy of official driving record. Work Environment: Includes exposure to drafts, noise, dust, grease, and dirt with extended periods of sitting, bending, and lifting light to very heavy objects and equipment, weighing up to 50 pounds. The employee in this position performs duties in all weather-related situations.
