Summary of Work

Local Government Division - Bismarck

NDDOT Starting Salary:

Engineer III:$7,388 / month

This position requires work in the office 5 days a week in the Bismarck/Mandan area. This position may be eligible for a hybrid work schedule requiring a minimum of three days a week in the office within the Bismarck/Mandan area.

Job Duties Include:

Project Management - Local Roadway and Bridge Projects
  • Oversee development of local roadway and bridge projects to ensure timely, compliant delivery.
  • Monitor project schedules and provide guidance on environmental, permitting, and utility tasks.
  • Review plans, specifications, and estimates; coordinate with internal and external agencies.
  • Attend project meetings and public events to offer technical support.
Local Bridge & Historic Bridge Program
  • Manage funding and project selection for local bridge projects.
  • Serve as subject matter expert and liaison for the Local and Historic Bridge Programs.
  • Coordinate with SHPO on historic bridge preservation and submit recommendations for approval.
  • Prepare bid packages, contracts, and process payments; maintain records in EDMS.
Bridge Inspection Program
  • Administer local bridge inspection contracts and ensure federal compliance.
  • Coordinate inspections, payments, and follow-ups on critical findings and load postings.
  • Work with local agencies, consultants, and internal divisions.
Support for Local Government Programs
  • Assist with Flex Fund, Transportation Alternatives, and other local programs.
  • Execute contracts, process payments, and provide technical support as needed.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in engineering
• Four years of professional-level engineering work experience, and
• Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering exam as specified by the Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors, and
• Requires a class D driver's license
