Loan Portfolio Manager ensures borrowers remain compliant with loan terms, monitor risk, coordinates post-origination activity, and partners with internal departments and external stakeholders to maintain portfolio performance. This role is both strategic and detail-oriented, with direct oversight of key touch points in the loan lifecycle.
Summary of Primary Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe
Loan Portfolio Manager is a hybrid position based in Los Angeles or Phoenix with two (2) days in the office. This role reports to the
Senior Vice President, Operations. While not an exhaustive list, the Loan Portfolio Manager will be responsible for:
Portfolio Oversight & Risk Monitoring- Proactively monitor a portfolio of active loans and projects to ensure compliance with loan terms.
- Identify risk or early signs of distress by tracking borrowers' behaviors, performance trends, and project timelines.
- Engage with Loan Originators to assess construction progress, exit strategies, and repayment plans.
Loan Maturity & Extension Management- Pull and scrub 90/60/30-day maturity reports; track and update key loan data (maturity dates, extension use, fees, past due balances).
- Coordinate with Loan Originators and Client Relations Managers to understand intent and timeline for each maturing loan.
- Prepare and submit complete extension request packages, ensuring accuracy and readiness for underwriting review.
- Communicate regularly with Loan Originators, Client Relations Managers and internal teams to resolve open conditions and assist with finalizing extension approvals.
Underwriting Support & Conditions Management- Serve as key liaison between the Loan Originators and Client Relations Managers, ensuring timely response to conditions and clarifications.
- Assist in validating project status, outstanding taxes, draw progress, or delinquency issues flagged during extension review.
- Upload documentation and responses into internal system and maintain transparency on all open items.
Client & Internal Communications- Act as the central point of contact between Loan Originators, Client Relations Managers, Underwriters, Capital Markets and Servicing.
- Communicate extension decisions, status changes, and borrower updates across internal teams to ensure continuity.
- Escalate borrower non-responsiveness or delinquency to Risk Management when needed.
Data Analysis & Reporting- Maintain accurate maturity and extension log in LOS systems.
- Produce weekly/monthly reports on Maturity trends, extension outcomes, and portfolio health.
- Interpret data to identify process bottlenecks or emerging risk patterns.
- Present insight and recommended process improvements to Sr. Leadership.
Compliance, Investor, Servicing Coordination- Ensure all extensions and modification process align with internal policies, investor requirements, and regulatory guidelines.
- Coordinate with Capital Markets and Closing to finalize loan changes and ensure documentation flow is complete.
- Support servicing by assisting with loan files for transfer post-closing and communicating borrower obligations.
- Support audit and quality-control reviews by providing clear, date-backed documentation.
Process Improvement & Workflow Optimization - Identify and suggest enhancements to the maturity tracking and extension process to improve speed, accuracy and risk mitigation.
- Help implement new workflows or system improvements that enhance borrower experience and internal alignments.
Education and Experience- A bachelor's degree in finance, Real Estate, or a related field is preferred but not required.
- 5+ years in loan portfolio management, underwriting, or senior loan processing.
- Comfort with quantitative risk assessment, dashboard reporting, and drawing actionable conclusions.
- Strong attention to detail, with an ability to identify discrepancies and proactively resolve issues.
- Problem-solving mindset with a focus on ensuring data integrity and identifying risks.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
CompensationThis position is exempt full-time, with salary range:
$100,000 - $120,000, plus discretionary bonus potential.
