Full Job Description
The Litigation Resource Team Manager creates and leads a centralized team of litigation assistants and paralegals who provide litigation support across Earthjustice's regional and program offices. The Manager establishes and implements a triage process for litigation support requests and assigns work to the Resource Team accordingly. The members of the Resource Team will be embedded in certain regional and program offices, where they will provide dedicated litigation support while remaining available for surge support to the organization. The Manager also provides litigation support in cases and matters organization-wide when programs/offices need additional capacity to meet filing deadlines, manage large document reviews, or support trials, hearings, and other high-intensity litigation phases.

The Manager is responsible for working with the Director of Legal Training and Development to identify, create, and deliver training that strengthens litigation support capabilities across Earthjustice. The Manager coordinates with litigation leadership, regional and programmatic offices, and other departments across the organization to ensure that centralized support is efficient, equitable, and consistent quality. The Manager reports to the Sr. Program Manager of the Litigation Practice team.

The Litigation Resource Team Manager may work hybrid from the following locations: Preference for Chicago, IL, Los Angeles, CA, San Francisco, CA, New York, NY, or Washington, DC, and open to other Earthjustice offices.

What You'll Do

Litigation Resource Management (40%)
  • Establish and serve as central intake point for requests for surge litigation support and ongoing work for dedicated offices/programs; and assign resource team members accordingly.
  • Develop criteria and protocols for prioritizing work, escalating requests, and resolving competing requests.
  • Partner with the Sr. Program Manager of Litigation Practice to measure impact and improve support of the Resource team.
  • Recruit and maintain a vetted pool of contract paralegals to support longer-term needs in partnership with HR Recruitment.

Organizational Development and Training (20%)
  • Partner with the Litigation Practice team to develop and deliver organization-wide training and resources for litigation assistants, paralegals, and legal practice staff.
  • Build and maintain a centralized knowledge base of litigation resources such as filing guides, templates, and checklists.
  • Partner with litigation leadership, legal operations, and information technology teams to evaluate and implement new tools as technology evolves.


Surge Litigation Resource Support (20%)

  • Provide a range of litigation support such as editing, cite-checking, proofreading, formatting, assembling, serving, and filing legal documents.
  • Draft pleadings or case related documents such as motions, status reports, procedural pleadings, comment letters, FOIA and public record requests.
  • Support all aspects of discovery and administrative record review such as conducting document review.
  • Coordinate logistics for trials, administrative hearings, or other proceedings.


Management (20%)

  • Supervise the resource litigation assistants and paralegals on the centralized team, including hiring, onboarding, daily oversight, coaching, and performance management.
  • Delegate and oversee legal support work across team assignments.
  • Partner with dedicated office/programs to gather and share feedback on team members' work.

  • Oversee relevant administrative, budgeting, and personnel management of direct reports, ensuring that all organizational policies and standards are met.

What You'll Bring

  • Bachelor's degree preferred and/or relevant experience including state, federal, appellate courts, and administrative agencies.
  • At least 5 years of paralegal experience spanning state, federal, and appellate courts, including rules and procedures in federal courts and administrative agencies where Earthjustice practices and wider environmental and social justice issues.
  • Experience with supervision of a team, ensuring effective team communication and collaboration.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability or demonstrated interest in developing and delivering effective training for adult learners.
  • Operate with a mentality of service to the organization.
  • Expert user of Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat, and other software/technology used to support litigation and program work. Thoughtful evaluator of new tools, where they may improve workflows.

Salaries at Earthjustice are determined by working location and are commensurate with the experience required.

The annual salary range for this role in San Francisco, CA or New York, NY is $113,000 - $125,500.

The annual salary range for this role in Chicago, IL, Los Angeles, CA, Seattle, WA, Honolulu, HI, or Washington, DC is $107,400 - $119,300.

The annual salary range for this role in Denver, CO, Anchorage, AK, Juneau, AK, or Philadelphia, PA is $101,700 - $113,000.

The annual salary range for this role in Bozeman, MT, Miami, FL, Tallahassee, FL, or Houston, TX is $96,000 - $106,700
