This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin's Blue Moon landers and related products. To further Blue Origin's mission of millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth, we are building sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface.

As part of a hardworking team of specialists, technicians, and engineers you will work to design, analyze, build, test, integrate, and operate fluids and propulsion subsystems for Lunar landers. Blue Origin's Lunar Transporter team is building the spacecraft that will deliver cargo and crew to the Moon-opening an entirely new frontier for commerce, science, and exploration. We're seeking an experienced Liquids Cryogenic Hardware Design Engineer to design the fluid systems that power this revolution. The Lunar Transporter demands uncompromising reliability in extreme environments. Your cryogenic systems will operate in deep space, lunar orbit, and on the lunar surface. You'll own the complete lifecycle of mission-critical hardware that directly enables lunar logistics and human exploration. This isn't incremental work-it's foundational technology for a new economy.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Define & Own Requirements - Lead component requirement definition for lunar-specific environments, negotiate critical interfaces, and evaluate both in-house and vendor solutions through rigorous first-order analysis
  • Drive Design Reviews - Present detailed component designs to cross-functional teams, defend technical decisions, and collaborate across lunar vehicle systems
  • Specify & Procure - Partner with suppliers to source optimal materials and components optimized for lunar transporter missions
  • Execute the Full Cycle - From design refinement through build, test, and delivery-watch your components launch toward the Moon
  • Document Excellence - Generate engineering drawings, P&IDs, and verification packages that meet lunar mission standards
  • Lead Problem Solving - Conduct structural and fluid analyses using industry-leading tools (ANSYS, Thermal Desktop, Creo/ProEngineer) in the lunar thermal and vacuum environment


Minimum Qualifications:
  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related field
  • 8+ years designing aerospace propulsion and cryogenic fluid systems, including piping architecture
  • Deep expertise in cryogenic components (valves, regulators, pumps) and system design
  • Proficiency in structural and fluid FEA (ANSYS), thermal analysis, and Creo/ProEngineer
  • Expertise creating and interpreting P&IDs and fabrication drawings


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Advanced degree (Master's or Ph.D.)
  • Hands-on cryogenics experience
  • Experience with space systems or extreme environment applications
  • Mastery of Windchill and ProPiping
  • Knowledge of ASME Y14.5 GD&T standards
  • Familiarity with piping fabrication methods, welding, and installation best practices
  • Non-linear FEA analysis experience


Compensation Range for:
CO applicants is $110,938.00 - $155,312.85WA applicants is $121,023.00 - $169,432.20
