Responsibilities

The Office of Space Weather Observations (SWO) under NESDISis responsible foradvancing space weather observational capabilities to meet NOAA programmatic needs. NOAAs Space Weather Next (SWX) programmaintainsand extends space weather observations from various vantage points, selected to mostefficientlyprovide comprehensive knowledge of the Sun and the near-Earth space environment needed to protect our technological infrastructure.

The Space Weather Ground Services (SWGS)is responsible forcomprehensive ground services for all SWX projects, ensuring successful implementation and operation ofobservingassets and ensuring the continuity of space weather measurements made by SWFO-L1 and the GOES-R series satellites.

The SWGS Mission Operations Services (MOS) program must provide a fullmission satellitecommand and control solution to support the L1 Series with two new independently launched observatories.

Overview:

Peraton is seeking a Linux/Windows SystemsAdministratorto support activities across a new satellite ground system development program supporting the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). This position will support alladministration activities throughout the full system lifecyclefrom architecture and design through integration, assessment, authorization, operationaldeploymentand sustainment.

The selected candidate willbe responsible forsupporting the programsinfrastrucutreand processes for a FISMA High-impact system in a cloud-based environment. This role requires close collaboration with other program functional elements including Systems Engineering Integration and Test (SEIT), Software Engineering, Networks,Security,andOperationsto ensureinfrastuructureand applications are implemented andmaintainedper system design documentation.

  • Provide support for implementation, troubleshooting and maintenance of Information Technology (IT) systems within Linux and Windows infrastructures.
  • Understand and implement hardening/STIG policies as defined by client and industry standards.
  • Windows system administration, managing Active Directory, grouppolicyandDNS in support ofmulti-site environments.
  • Management ofVMwarevSphere (including vCenter andESXi) supporting multi-site environments.
  • Configure andmanage Linux/Windows operating systemsoftwareto includecloud-basedcompute, storage,databaseand containerizationinfrastructureand applications. (In Azure, Amazon Web Services (AWS)or other CSP)
  • Management, coordination, and implementation of software upgrades, patches, hot fixes on Linux/Windows serversandworkstations,leveragingtools such as SatelliteandBigFix.
  • Collaborate with other teams and team members to develop automation strategies and deployment processes.
  • Identifyissues and create improvement processes to help with the reduction of incident outage times.
  • Develop andmaintainO26M Standard Operating Proceduresfor developed capabilities.
  • Write and edit scripts in Python, Perl,Powershell, Java, C, etc.
  • Utilize JIRA in an Agile development environment.
  • Support development and maintenance of automated testing.

Qualifications

  • 9 years of relevant experience will be considered in lieu of a bachelors degree.

  • Systems Administration experience administering user accounts, performing server subsystem configuration, network management, installation of software, performing backups, configuration management, and general system maintenance

Desired Qualifications:

  • AWS certificationor similar CSP certifications
  • Experience with Jira/ Confluence Atlassian tools
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools like Terraform, CloudFormation and Ansible
  • Experience supporting NOAA, NASA, or national space mission programs, particularly ground systems.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a willingness to foster strong relationships with coworkers and vendors.

Target Salary Range$80,000 - $128,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individuals experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
