We are looking for a hands-on Linux engineer/administrator who has real world Linux experience with hardening, tuning and managing systems in latency sensitive production environments.
This role will require travel to local data centers in the NY/NJ region, on-site physical racking and cabling of equipment and you will be on a rotating "on call" schedule approximately every 5-6 weeks to provide 24x7 coverage.
Responsibilities
- Hands-on Red Hat/Oracle Linux and Solaris administrator
- Primary roles are engineering and day to day operational support
- Work closely with our application support, quality assurance, integration, development and performance teams.
- Engineering solutions based on business requirements
- Clear documentation of procedures and work
- Provide high availability for all managed servers and components
- Facilitation of timely and effective remediation for all Fxall issues
- Ensure professional and timely communication with internal and external clients
- Provide support for all client facing Fxall environments
- Communicate status turnover in support of 24x7 support model
- Will be on-call based on a rotating schedule
- Provision of recommendations that will improve operational efficiency
Required skills (e.g. hands-on experience):
- In-depth knowledge of Red Hat Linux distributions and the Linux kernel - Red Hat Linux 5, 6 and 7
- Virtualization experience with KVM and/or Xen
- Hands-on experience working in a data center (e.g.racking, cabling, power, capacity planning, best practices)
- Experience deploying operating system builds and patches (e.g. kickstart, jumpstart, yum, YaST)
- Experience supporting and troubleshooting JAVA based applications (e.g. Sun, BEA, IBM JVMs)
- Experience supporting and troubleshooting database infrastructure (e.g. Oracle RAC, Sybase, MySQL)
- System monitoring and trending (e.g. Nagios, Big Brother, MRTG, ganglia, Cacti)
- Configuring and supporting Apache httpd /Apache Tomcat
- Shell scripting (e.g. Bash, Korn, Cshell)
- Network based storage (e.g. EMC, NetApp)
- Authentication methods and systems (e.g. OpenLDAP, localized access control, Siteminder, RSA Ace)
- Visio and general documentation skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
Working knowledge in any of the following area is a plus:
- Networking (e.g. packet analysis, routing, Cisco, Foundry, Juniper, Force10, Extreme)
- Security (e.g. Firewalls, VPN, server hardening, IDS, forensics, auditing, ACLs)

Education/Experience
- Degree requirements - BA/BS - course of study (e.g. Computer science, engineering)
- This candidate should have 8+ years experience as a Linux/UNIX administrator, with a focus on Linux
- Work experience within the financial sector
- Must be hands-on
