Scientific Linux ResearcherNational Institutes of Health / National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) Place of Performance: 251 Bayview Blvd.,Biomedical Research Center, Baltimore, MD 21224 Position Summary and Objectives: This position supports the Linux computing systems in NIDA's research facility and performs data analysis in support of the Institute's research programs. The Scientific Linux Researcher administers and maintains Linux-based laboratory computers, manages and analyzes research data, troubleshoots computing equipment, and applies high-performance computing resources to advance ongoing scientific projects.
Technical Requirements: Scientific Linux ResearcherLinux administration and systems support- Perform Linux administration and data analysis in support of the facility's research programs and projects.
- Maintain and operate Linux-based laboratory computers, and perform the fundamental procedures required for research projects.
- Optimize research using high-performance computing (HPC) resources and software solutions.
Data management and record keeping- Conduct data storage and record keeping; maintain clear and accurate records of laboratory work and convert those records to electronic records as appropriate.
- Perform data retrieval and entry using multiple IT systems.
Equipment quality control and troubleshooting- Perform troubleshooting of Linux-based computer equipment; document the actions required to resolve the problem and initiate corrective action as needed.
- Perform routine upkeep, maintenance, and quality control of laboratory computing equipment.
Procurement support- Prepare purchase requests for new or replacement computer equipment.
- Prepare purchase requests for execution through NIH procurement systems.
Data analysis and experiments- Perform experiments and analyses as listed in the analysis plan.
- Perform computational data analysis in support of research objectives.
Collaboration, planning, and scientific presentation- Attend laboratory meetings and present findings to staff, and present data at one national scientific meeting.
- Develop strategies with the supervisor and other laboratory personnel to plan subsequent experiments, and collaborate on the development and use of new computing tools.
- Interact with scientists from other organizations or institutions involved in similar or related research projects.
Specific Qualifications: - Bachelor's degree required in Computer Science, Information Sciences, Computer Administration/Management and Security, Computer and Information Systems, Computer Programming and Data Processing, or a related field with 5 to 7 years of experience.
- No professional certifications or licenses are required for this position.
- Demonstrated ability in Linux administration, data management, and data analysis.
- Experience supporting Linux-based computing in a research or scientific environment is preferred.
