The Supervisor, Light Rail Track Maintenance is responsible for planning, coordinating and supervising repair persons involved in the inspection and maintenance of rail and its components; inspects completed repair work to ensure that rail is safe for travel; maintains records of inspection; tracks and analyzes time, materials and general expenses of projects; directly supervises rail change out, crosstie replacement, track lining and surfacing, ballast cleaning, and other major track maintenance operations. The incumbent also advises the Superintendent, Maintenance of Way of needed equipment, tools and materials for day-to-day activities; operates track maintenance equipment, aids in the review of external repair and maintenance contracts, supervises the contracted personnel, and performs other related duties. The incumbent is required to supervise personnel and delegate repairs to meet Federal, state of Maryland and MTA standards. Employees in this class directly supervise "A" and "B" Repairmen.
Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Graduation from a standard high school or possession of a high school equivalency certification
Experience: Three (3) years of experience repairing, installing, inspecting, and cleaning rail and related facilities.

SUBSTITUTION INFORMATION:
1. Additional experience as defined above may be substituted on a year-for-year
basis for the required education.

2. Additional education at an accredited college or university may be substituted at a
rate of thirty credit hours for each year of the required experience for up to four
years of the required non-supervisory experience.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
1. Employee may be subject to call-in 24 hours a day and may be required to
maintain a reliable communication link for the purpose of emergency call back
requirements.

2. Employee will be required to work shifts, evenings, holidays, and weekends.

3. Employee may be exposed to a variety of hazards, requiring the wearing of
protective clothing and the use of appropriate safety and Personal Protective
Equipment.

4. Employees in this position are considered "Essential Employees" and will be
required to sign and agree to all policies and procedures relating to "Essential
Employee" status.

5. Eligible applicants may be subject to a background investigation under Federal
and State laws and regulations. A conviction is not an automatic disqualification to
employment. Erroneous, misleading or fraudulent information on the application
is sufficient grounds for rejection from the hiring process, removal from the list of
eligibles, withdraw of an offer for employment or immediate discharge.

6. Employees in this classification are subject to pre-employment drug testing and
substance abuse testing in accordance with the Code of Federal Regulations 49-
Federal Department of Transportation Drug Alcohol Testing Protocols and Federal
Transit Administration Alcohol Testing Rules, and Transportation Code of
Maryland Regulations 11.02.11, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs

1. Employees in this classification are assigned duties, which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
