Full Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Licensed Mechanical Engineer (PE) with expertise in HVAC and MEP system design for commercial and institutional facilities. This is a hands-on engineering position focused on the design, analysis, and documentation of mechanical building systems rather than project management. The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering innovative, code-compliant engineering solutions from concept through construction.

The ideal candidate has extensive experience designing HVAC systems for complex buildings and will serve as the Engineer of Record, collaborating closely with architects, engineers, owners, and construction teams throughout the design and construction process. Projects include healthcare, commercial, municipal, institutional, veterinary, and other specialized facilities.

Responsibilities
  • Design HVAC and mechanical building systems for commercial and institutional construction projects.
  • Perform HVAC load calculations, energy analyses, equipment selection, ventilation design, and other engineering calculations.
  • Prepare construction drawings, specifications, schedules, and technical documentation.
  • Serve as the Engineer of Record, providing technical leadership throughout design and construction.
  • Coordinate mechanical system designs with architectural, structural, electrical, plumbing, and other engineering disciplines.
  • Review RFIs, submittals, shop drawings, and construction-phase documentation.
  • Conduct field investigations, site visits, and construction observations as required.
  • Resolve design and constructability challenges by developing practical engineering solutions.
  • Support commissioning, inspections, punch-list activities, and project closeout.
  • Ensure all designs comply with applicable building codes, industry standards, client requirements, and engineering best practices.
  • Maintain a high standard of technical accuracy, quality, and documentation throughout project delivery.

Requirements
  • Active Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • 5+ years of mechanical engineering experience; 10+ years preferred.
  • Proven experience designing HVAC and MEP systems for commercial and institutional buildings.
  • Experience with healthcare, municipal, institutional, veterinary, or other complex facility types is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC load calculations, equipment selection, mechanical codes, energy efficiency principles, and engineering best practices.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit MEP, or similar mechanical design software.
  • Ability to independently develop, review, and seal engineering drawings and calculations.
  • Excellent technical, analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience collaborating with multidisciplinary engineering and architectural teams.
  • Hands-on HVAC and mechanical system design experience is required.
  • Candidates whose experience is primarily project management without significant engineering design responsibilities will not be considered.

Benefits
  • Competitive salary based on experience.
  • Health, dental, and vision insurance.
  • Retirement savings plan with company contribution.
  • Paid time off and company holidays.
  • Opportunity to work on technically challenging commercial and institutional projects.
  • Collaborative, multidisciplinary engineering environment.
  • Ongoing professional development and continuing education support.
  • Long-term career growth and advancement opportunities within a growing engineering team.
