Assessing the counseling needs of the clients.

Assessing clients using ASI or using other standardized assessment tool, and for adolescents, using the CASI or using other evidence-based validated assessment tool, and diagnosing clients for substance disorders using the DSM-IV-TR.

Determining the appropriate level of care based on ASAM PPC-2R.

Obtaining previous records that are relevant to the current treatment episode.

Collaborating with the client in order to develop a written treatment plan that is client-centered and recovery oriented and includes goals and measurable objectives.

The director of substance abuse counseling shall develop, monitor, and provide clients and the treatment team with written schedules that will be used to update each client treatment plan(s) to ensure that each client's treatment needs are addressed.

Providing the substance abuse counseling services specified in the client treatment plan; N.J.A.C. 10:161A-1.9.

Reviewing clients throughout the treatment episode according to ASAM PPC-2R, to determine the need for continued services or discharge/transfer.

Reviewing and, where necessary, revising the substance abuse counseling portion of the client treatment plan to address emerging problems.

Developing the client discharge/transfer plans to ensure movement to the appropriate levels of care.

Contacting referral sources, providing case consultation and coordination with referral sources (for example: mental health treatment providers, criminal justice agencies, schools, employers, the Division of Youth and Family Services).

Participating as a member of a multidisciplinary team for assigned clients.

Providing active case consultation; and documenting all counseling and education services, assessments, reassessments, referrals, and follow-up in the client's clinical record, providing appropriate signatures and dating of such entries, including those made in electronic records.

Provides direct addiction treatment services utilizing group, individual education about the disease, relapse and recovery processes of addiction.

Acts as an advocate for the patient with other Medical Center programs and functions as a liaison with other providers for purpose of community linkage to network patients.

Acts as part of the management team that makes decisions about policies and procedures.

Records data used for performance improvement.

Designs a discharge plan for continuity of treatment needs to outpatient, community, social services and other health care agencies for continued recovery.

Facilitates group and family sessions.

Makes recommendations regarding the needs of the patient from an addiction and recovery perspective.

Provides guidance to staff and communicates concerns to the Program Director.

Notifies the Security Department when/if the need arises to ensure the safety of the patient, community, staff and/or property. Informs emergency room physicians that an immediate evaluation may need to be performed.

Reads collateral information for prior history and treatment of patients.

Makes recommendations based on screening, assessment, interview, history of present illness, family history, current legal problems, most conducive treatment and discharge plan for optimum recovery outcomes.

Monitors documentation of Counselor Interns/Credentialed Interns/Substance Abuse Workers.

Conducts on-going evaluation of the actual practice of services being delivered and seeks to identify improvement needs by patient response and approach of the type of treatment services being rendered.

Accepts Bergen New Bridge Medical Center policy regarding random staff drug testing/screening.

Maintains licensure requirements.

Makes recommendations to Supervisor/Manager/Coordinator regarding improvement needs and suggests resolutions which may enhance quality of treatment and delivery of services.

Maintains established contacts with DCPP, probation, parole officers, social services, welfare, housing, other health care providers, and treatment programs to support the patient's treatment needs.

Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental, and infection control standards.

Understands and adheres to BNBMC Code of Conduct, Dress Code, and Ethical Standards of Practice.

Familiar with BNBMC's Mission, Vision, and Values Statements as well as requirements for continued empowerment.

Other Job Duties:

Makes decisions regarding policy in the absence of Supervisor/Manager/Program Director.

Works weekends and holidays when needed.

Actively participates in all required department meetings.

Attends related in-services, workshops, and conferences, as assigned.

Performs other duties as assigned to support the overall objectives of the department and organization.

Position Qualifications:

• At least 3-5 years' experience working in the area of Substance Use Disorders.
• An understanding of addiction treatments, including pharmacology.
• Assessment and Counseling skills.
• Reporting and record keeping.
• Cultural competence.
• Good oral and written communication skills.
• Excellent organizational skills.
• Speaks, reads, and writes English to the extent required by the position.
• Bilingual skills are a plus (Spanish, etc.)
• Heart Saver/CPR certification is required.
• BLS certification is preferred,

Education/Licensure:

• Requires a master's degree in counseling, addictions, or a counseling-related area, which shall include a minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in counseling from an accredited institution of higher education.
• Meet all of the requirements of N.J.A.C. 13:34C-2.2 and have been issued a License as a Clinical Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LCADC) by the Division of Consumer Affairs, Alcohol and Drug Counselor Committee.
• Completion of required continued education coursework, annually.

Job Setting/Physical Demands:

• Program locations; contact with patients, families, and staff.
• Somewhat sedentary, but mobility required.
• Occasionally lifts, positions, pushes and/ or transfers patients.
• Occasional heavy physical effort when de-escalating out of control patients.
• Subject to varying and unpredictable situations.
• Handles emergency and crisis situations.

Salary commensurate with experience within posted range.

$37.10 to $48.07 per hour | DIFFERENTIALS: EVE 10%/NIGHT12%/WKEND $2.00 P/H
