The NICU Nurse Manager has 24 hour, 7 days per week responsibility and accountability for the day to day coordination of department operations and quality of clinical nursing care of patients in the NICU. The
Level 3 NICU Nurse Manager holds 24/7 responsibility for orchestrating NICU operations and ensuring delivery of high-quality clinical care. This leadership role reports to the Nursing Director of Women, Infants, and Children and provides direct mentorship and oversight to Clinical Managers and Resource Nurses.
Key Responsibilities: - Supervise all clinical and ancillary staff in the NICU, ensuring adherence to standards, policies, and regulatory requirements.
- Partner with the Director and Clinical Educator to maintain and update clinical procedures and compliance with Title 22, TJC, CDPH, and CCS.
- Conduct rounds with patient families to assess satisfaction and collaboratively address concerns.
- Analyze acuity data, manage staffing models, and complete department productivity reports each pay period, explaining variances.
- Oversee Kronos scheduling, timekeeping, and statistical reporting; ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Develop capital equipment lists; manage supplies, invoicing, and contracts in collaboration with the Director.
- Conduct timely performance evaluations (new hire and annual), maintain licensure/certification records, and manage employee files in compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Investigate incidents, complete documentation, and drive corrective action planning.
- Support operational issues, recognize staff achievements, and facilitate regular staff and Neonatal Operations Committee meetings.
- Represent the NICU in committees; monitor and present performance improvement projects.
- Provide direct patient care and assist in emergencies as needed; collaborate continuously with the NICU Medical Director and NICU Director.
- Foster a culture of feedback and continuous improvement.
Qualifications (Required): - Level 3 NICU Manager experience
- Minimum 5 years of NICU nursing experience, including 3 years in full-time NICU leadership
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
- Current California RN license
- BSN (in-progress considered with definitive completion plan)
- Current BLS (American Heart Association)
- Current NRP certification
- Certified Neonatal Intensive Care Nurse (NCC or equivalent) (in-progress accepted with completion plan)
- Strong clinical competence, professionalism, leadership, and communication skills
Preferred Qualifications: - Master's Degree in Nursing
- NRP Instructor Certification
- Experience in critical care transport
