JOB DESCRIPTION:LAG is a non-partisan office serving the Utah Legislature. The office is seeking a full-time, staff-level Performance Auditor. A performance auditor is an independent, unbiased examiner and evaluator of programs, functions, or operations of a government entity. Auditors will employ various methodologies to gather, evaluate and present the foundational data which improves programs, reduces costs, and promotes accountability. They need to be able to determine risk and identify and evaluate trends. Performance Auditors conduct various audit procedures and write comprehensive reports to achieve the objectives of the audit assignment. The ideal candidate is a curious lifelong learner who appreciates breadth and depth of concepts, who works tirelessly to determine root cause and effective mitigation strategies, and who understands subtlety and nuance. They can work effectively in a team setting and on their own, depending on what is needed and appropriate in any given circumstance. Candidates will receive on- the-job training in performance audit methodology and techniques.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:• Conduct efficiency, effectiveness, compliance, financial, and organizational performance reviews of state government agencies
• Support senior performance auditors and auditors-in-charge to gather and interpret data used in reports to the Utah State Legislature
• Distill complicated data sets and concepts into multiple formats, reports and infographics aimed at different audiences, considering the varied needs and requirements of those audiences
• Collect and analyze data necessary to evaluate the performance of state agencies
• Conduct interviews, field observations, and document reviews of audited agencies in a potentially confrontational environment
• Compile information into reports for legislators and other public officials

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:• Master's degree in public administration, public policy, economics, business or other closely related field
• Must be non-partisan

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:• Possesses a high level of sophisticated qualitative and quantitative analytical skills
• Is able to perform detailed analyses of complex data using various tools
• Can create new analyses, and update existing analyses, which align with audit testing objectives
• Can identify insightful conclusions derived from data aggregation and data mining
• Will develop an understanding of data structures and data available to audit teams that can be used to help enhance the quality and impact of audits
• Understands governmental organizational and financial controls
• Demonstrates interpersonal communication skills necessary to maintain a cooperative working relationship both internally and externally to the organization
• Possesses writing and presentation skills necessary to effectively communicate organized ideas and audit conclusions

Salary Range - The starting salary for this role is typically between $38.64 and $53.60 per hour. The selected candidate's actual starting salary will be commensurate with their education and professional experience. This position is eligible for a full benefits package.

All offers of employment for positions within the Office of the Legislator General are issued conditioned upon successful completion of an FBI-level (fingerprint) background check administered by BCI. Once employed, an employee is subject to the FBI's on-going process of continuous monitoring for criminal and arrest records.
