ABOUT THE ROLEThe Legal Counsel will collaborate with project managers, fellow in-house counsel, executives, and external counsel to provide legal support on contracts, disputes, and risk management. They will safeguard the company's interests by reviewing documents, addressing regulatory requirements, protecting rights and entitlements, preparing correspondence, and maintaining records essential for effective dispute resolution. Additionally, they will work in a team environment to support the success of the business.
Central to the position, the Legal Counsel will review, draft, interpret, and negotiate construction contracts with clients, partners, subcontractors, and vendors in collaboration with senior legal staff and operations management. Typical contracts include, but are not limited to, EPC agreements, construction contracts, subcontracts, purchase orders, joint venture agreements, consortium agreements, major equipment contracts, memoranda of understanding, and nondisclosure agreements.
The Legal Counsel will be committed to professional development and have opportunities to work on a variety of legal matters as they progress including Civil Litigation, Labor & Employment, Public Company Governance, Securities & Exchange, Risk Management and Personal Injury matters.
This is an on-site position located at our Thornton, Colorado office.
Essential Functions- Provide legal advice and support in all aspects of construction law
- Review, draft, and negotiate construction contracts
- Draft documentation and provide legal support for disputes involving construction projects
- Ensure proper organization and timely completion of relevant project documents
- Respond promptly and accurately to internal and external inquiries
- Other duties as assigned
- Maintain regular and predictable attendance
- Essential Functions of this position are to be performed at a Company-designated office or field location
- Understand and comply with the Company's Code of Business Conduct and Ethics Policy and as well as other applicable industry-specific professional and ethical standards
ABOUT YOUQualifications- 3 to 7+ years of construction law experience
- Active state bar admission and ability to become licensed in Colorado within 6 months
Preferred Education- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school and a bachelor's degree
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment with a business focused approach to support our operations
- Knowledge of construction and contract law including contract methods and key risk-shifting provisions, with strong negotiation skills and strategic thinking
- Advanced verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively at all levels and across all functions within the company
- Ability to convey complex contract and legal concepts clearly and succinctly
- Commercially savvy with strong business acumen to provide practical solutions that enable the company to achieve its financial goals
- Ability to meet required deadlines
- Strong interpersonal skills with an attention to detail and ability to work independently while managing changing priorities
- Superior organizational skills and the ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities effectively
WHAT WE OFFERCompensation & Benefits- Salary $135,000-$200,000 / year
- Commensurate with experience, paid weekly. Posted salary ranges are made in good faith. MYR Group reserves the right to adjust ranges depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate.
