Legal Counsel
As Senior Legal Counsel, you will serve as a trusted legal advisor supporting Kuehne+Nagel Canada's operations, partnering closely with senior leaders across the business to provide practical, commercially focused legal advice. Reporting directly to the Vice President, General Counsel, you will play a critical role in managing legal risk, negotiating complex commercial agreements, supporting strategic business initiatives, and ensuring compliance across our freight forwarding, customs brokerage, transportation, and logistics operations. This is a highly visible role that combines strategic legal counsel with hands-on partnership across a dynamic global organization.
How you create impact- Draft, review, and negotiate a broad range of commercial agreements, including customer contracts, vendor agreements, logistics services agreements, freight forwarding contracts, customs brokerage arrangements, non-disclosure agreements, and strategic partnership agreements.
- Provide practical, risk-based legal advice to senior leaders and business stakeholders on commercial transactions, operational matters, regulatory requirements, and dispute resolution strategies.
- Support Kuehne+Nagel's freight forwarding, customs brokerage, transportation, and logistics businesses by delivering commercially focused legal guidance.
- Advise on compliance matters relating to customs, international trade, anti-bribery and anti-corruption legislation, privacy, data protection, competition law, and internal corporate policies.
- Partner closely with Operations, Sales, Finance, Procurement, Human Resources, Compliance, IT, and Global Legal teams to deliver timely and business-oriented legal support.
- Translate complex legal issues into clear, practical, and actionable guidance for both legal and non-legal stakeholders.
- Contribute to legal operations by supporting contract lifecycle improvements, knowledge management initiatives, reporting, and continuous process enhancement.
- Exercise sound judgment while balancing commercial objectives with legal and regulatory risk in a fast-paced business environment.
- Develop practical solutions to resolve complex commercial issues, customer disputes, and operational challenges.
- Educate and support business partners on key legal, commercial, and regulatory considerations that impact Kuehne+Nagel's Canadian operations.
What we would like you to bring- Juris Doctor (JD) or Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree.
- Member in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario.
- 5+ years of post-call experience practicing corporate and commercial law within Canada, either in-house or in private practice.
- Significant experience drafting, reviewing, negotiating, and advising on a broad range of commercial agreements.
- Experience supporting logistics, freight forwarding, customs brokerage, transportation, or supply chain businesses would be considered an asset.
- Strong commercial judgment with the ability to balance legal risk while supporting business objectives.
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and stakeholder management skills, with confidence partnering with senior leadership.
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver practical legal advice in a fast-paced, global environment.
- A collaborative, solutions-oriented approach with the ability to influence cross-functional teams and build trusted business relationships.

The target base salary range for this position is between CAD $135,000 and $175,000. Base salary is part of a competitive total rewards package that includes health and dental benefits, a retirement savings plan, and tuition reimbursement. Individual pay may vary from the target range and is determined by a number of factors including experience, skills, job location, internal pay equity, and other relevant business considerations. Kuehne+Nagel reviews pay ranges regularly to ensure competitive and fair pay based on industry market data.
