Legal Counsel (Junior Level) PHSA Corporate

The Legal Counsel (Junior Level) works in collaboration with PHSA Associate and Senior Legal Counsel on the provision of a broad range of legal services to the organization to ensure maintenance of its operations and provides in-house legal support and consultation on processes, policies and contracts. Also provides timely and well-reasoned legal opinion and advice to internal and external stakeholders in respect of general and complex legal matters pertaining to risk management issues, legal review of Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FOIPPA) requests and other legal issues as they arise, and where required, represents the organization in Small Claims Court and in matters before administrative tribunals. The Legal Advisor receives support and mentorship from PHSA Legal Counsel on issues of increased complexity and organizational impact.
What you'll do - Provide legal counsel and guidance to corporate and operational departments and senior leadership on a wide variety of legal matters/issues. Review, research, interpret and prepares legal opinions. Anticipates and identifies legal issues and counsels senior leadership to develop legal strategies and solutions to address, prevent and/or eliminate situations of legal risk.
- Provides advice on regulatory compliance and public law principles, including principles of good governance, transparency and public accountability.
- Draft, review, amend, and interpret contracts, leases, forms, documents, proposals, policies, guidelines, and strategy papers for legal effect, and provides constructive advice and input. Provides guidance on implications and courses of action and represents the organization in negotiations with external organizations and agencies. Advises on business risk mitigation strategies where legal exposures exist.
- Represent the organization at various hearings such as in Small Claims Court and in matters before administrative tribunals and presents arguments.
What you bring - A level of education, training, and experience equivalent to a Law Degree from an accredited University supplemented by a minimum of two (2) to five (5) years' recent, related in-house and/or external legal corporate law experience.
- Current member in good standing of the Law Society of British Columbia.
- Demonstrated knowledge of BC corporate, healthcare, privacy law and regulations and a track record of building a team environment.

Job Type: Regular, Full-Time
Salary Range: $108,147 - $155,461/year. The starting salary for this position would be determined with consideration of the successful candidate's relevant education and experience and would be in alignment with the provincial compensation reference plan. Salary will be prorated accordingly for part-time roles.
