Position overview

This role is for a highly motivated and detail-oriented attorney experienced in employment law and in litigation, preferably with a healthcare or life sciences background, to join our Legal team. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in providing legal guidance and support for global employee relations, commercial matters, and general litigation or other contested matters. This role reports directly to the VP, Deputy General Counsel and is an excellent opportunity for a talented attorney looking to make a significant impact in a dynamic and innovative healthcare-focused organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct employment law support and also provides legal support to U.S. based Deputy General Counsel in litigation and other corporate matters
  • Collaborate with business colleagues and members of the legal team and contract managers to draft, review, and manage day-to-day sales, procurement, and other commercial agreements
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure compliance with North American and European federal, state, and local employment laws, regulations, and industry standards, proactively identifying and mitigating legal risks
  • Provide support to and coordinate with Compliance team including assistance on investigative matters
  • Provide guidance and advice to U.S., European and Canadian Human Resources departments and to the management teams on labor and employment laws, including matters related to team member onboarding, restrictive covenants, employee disciplinary actions and separations
  • Provide advice to the Rewards and Recognition team on various employee benefits concerns or claims
  • Provide legal counsel and support on a wide range of employment law matters, which may include, without limitation: employment contracts, separation and severance agreements, internal investigations, discrimination, harassment, and related compliance issues.
  • Assist in the development, implementation, and maintenance of employment policies, procedures, and practices that comply with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Conduct training sessions and provide educational resources to employees and managers on employment law matters to promote legal awareness and compliance within the organization.
  • Responsible for collaboration with Deputy General Counsel on effectively managing external counsel-as needed-including oversight of disputes and litigation matters.
  • Collaborate with other Legal Group team members to manage day-to-day commercial agreements, matters, and ongoing and potential litigation and disputes.
  • Review sales and marketing materials to ensure legal compliance and adequate substantiation.
  • Work closely with the legal team and other internal stakeholders to achieve business objectives while maintaining legal and ethical standards.


Role Relevant Experience and skills

  • Admission to the bar in the state of New Jersey or another state, and eligible for in-house counsel registration.
  • Five (5) or more years of experience as an attorney, preferably in healthcare, life sciences, or a related industry, with a focus on litigation and employment law.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. federal and state laws and regulations.
  • Ability to research labor and employment laws, regulations and collective bargaining requirements outside the U.S., such as Canada, the EU and Latin American countries, without overly relying on external counsel
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and group presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide strategic legal advice and counsel to global business partners within varied functions and global business units
  • High degree of professionalism, integrity, and ethical behavior.

Education/Qualifications:

  • Law degree from an ABA accredited law school
  • U.S. based role requires admission to an applicable state bar


Travel Requirements

The position may require limited business travel within the U.S., with occasional visits to Canada and Europe. Travel is not expected to exceed 15% of the time for the position.
