  • Provide legal guidance to project management and leadership on issues affecting project execution.

Legal Coordinator - Construction Contracts
Full Time

Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Draft, review, revise, and coordinate construction contracts, subcontracts, consultant agreements, RFPs, and related procurement documents consistent with industry standards.
  • Support internal stakeholders by reviewing contracts for completeness, consistency, and alignment with company standards, escalating legal risks or deviations to internal leadership or external legal counsel as required.
  • Assist with contract administration throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Anticipate legal risks and provide mitigation strategies prior to award and execution of project contracts.
  • Serve as the primary internal counsel for construction disputes, including delay claims, change orders, lien claims, trust issues, defaults, and performance issues.
  • Assist in the dispute resolution activities including mediation, arbitration, adjudication, and litigation support when required.
  • Provide timely legal advice to leadership, project management, and commercial teams on legal issues affecting project execution, procurement, and commercial decisions.
  • Participate in project meetings where legal issues are likely to arise; provide legal clarity and solutions at various stages in the project.
  • Maintain communications with relevant authorities when necessary to manage litigation strategy, cost, and outcomes.
  • Train internal stakeholders (project managers, commercial leads, estimators) on legal contracting topics, industry best practices, and risk awareness.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of changes in construction law and industry developments.
  • Escalate issues to appropriate legal authority if needed.

Qualifications and Requirements:
  • Degree, diploma, or certificate in Law and/or Paralegal Studies is required.
  • Licensed Paralegal in Ontario or equivalent experience focused on construction law and risk management.
  • Experience reviewing and coordinating construction contracts, subcontracts, consultant agreements, and procurement documentation.
  • Proven background in construction disputes and dispute resolution processes (dispute resolution, arbitration, litigation).
  • Experience working within or alongside construction, engineering, property management or infrastructure companies.
  • Experience advising stakeholders is an asset.
  • Excellent legal drafting and negotiation skills.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and commercial judgment.

  • Compensation Range: $80,000 - $110,000 / annum
This compensation represents the Company's current anticipated range for this position. Actual compensation offered may vary based on the candidate's qualifications, experience, and skills.
