Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and implementation of a next-gen P/L attribution system as a firm authority on product performance.
  • Oversee new trading strategies to optimize risk and cost trade-offs.
  • Manage development of innovative approaches for basis risk related to fund NAVs and hedging instruments.
  • Work with the Pricing team on new product development and advise on hedging strategies and cost representation.
  • Contribute to financial planning with insights on the long-term effects of hedging strategies.
  • Collaborate with quants and programmers on new valuation and trading model implementations.
  • Coordinate with the trading desk for timely execution of strategic decisions.
  • Engage with senior management on strategic positioning and trading tactics through market insights.
  • Rapidly assimilate knowledge of the product line to connect old and new models with their hedging impacts.
  • Mentor and cultivate a diverse team of professionals.

Where you'll work:

How you'll contribute:

As the Head of Hedging Solutions reporting to the Head of Variable Annuity Strategy, this position is primarily responsible for the management of the firm's hedging strategy, with an emphasis on creating and implementing hedging strategies that optimize both economic and statutory outcomes. You will be a thought leader for the firm on the practical utilization of derivatives and will deepen the firm's understanding of how hedging affects financial performance and capital efficiency. You will consult on model design and collaborate with senior management on hedge trading strategy and tactics.

In this role, you'll get to:
  • Collaborate on design and implementation of the next generation of our P/L attribution system and become the go-to authority for the firm in understanding product performance and hedging efficacy.
  • Supervise the implementation of processes and new trading strategies that further optimize risk & cost trade-offs.
  • Supervise the development of new approaches to managing basis risk between fund NAVs and hedge instruments.
  • Collaborate with our Pricing team on new product development initiatives, advising them on hedging strategies we will use for the products and helping them represent benefits and costs of hedging in the product prices.
  • Collaborate on financial planning for the firm, contributing expertise on the long-term financial effects of hedging strategies.
  • Collaborate on work done by quants in design and prototyping of new valuation and trading models, and with programmers on implementation.
  • Work with the trading desk on timely and efficient trading to implement strategic decisions.
  • Participate with senior management in the process of proposing, discussing, and choosing strategic positioning and trading tactics for the firm, contributing your unique perspective on markets.
  • Quickly learn our product line to triangulate between existing models and newly created models and understand the effects on hedging strategy.
  • Coach and develop a team of professionals, at all levels.


We're looking for people who have:

  • Advanced degree and/or qualifications in a relevant discipline, PhD preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience with increasing responsibilities in a quantitative strategy role.
  • Deep knowledge of a broad range of valuation techniques, expertise in capital markets, and familiarity with GAAP/Stat/Offshore accounting regimes.
  • Experience managing the implementation of complex models across multiple disciplines.
  • Excellent partnership skills with the ability to persuade, negotiate, and arbitrate to effect change and achieve desired results.
  • Ability to clearly communicate complex information to management.
  • Seasoned leader with track record of growing talent and developing strong teams.

  • Other Key Stakeholders: Variable Annuity ALM Team, Treasurer, Product and Underwriting
