Full Job Description
The position as Technical Lead (Utilities) is responsible and accountable for providing tactical and strategic support to a new world scale Polyolefins production site. The position leads a team of process engineers providing technical guidance, continuous improvement and troubleshooting expertise to the Operations department responsible for the efficient and safe operation of an integrated multi-utility infrastructure dedicated to VHP steam supply, raw water supply and treatment, cooling water supply, instrument and plant air supply, firewater supply, demin water supply, condensate collection and treatment, waste water treatment, steam turbine power generator, ethylene import/export, wet air oxidation of spent caustic, benzene waste water stripping, flares and thermal oxidizers.

This position requires daily interaction with Operations, HSE, Process Controls, Maintenance and Reliability personnel to drive overall improvements. This role will lead the planning and design of long-range capital projects to overcome process constraints, resolve reliability challenges and comply with environmental regulations. This will include defining scope, providing front-end-loading and incorporating process knowledge during engineering phases. This role will also advise on initiatives to maintain a competitive advantage, inputs to the site asset strategy and closing gaps identified in industry benchmark studies.

The Technical Lead provides leadership, development, and coaching to direct reports to achieve business results, create value, and optimize the site. This position reports to the Site Technical Manager.

A Day in the Life

General
  • Advocates and drives improvements in safety and environmental performance
  • Participates, leads, and implements local, regional, and corporate initiatives
  • Sets clear performance expectations, coaches and mentors technical personnel
  • Understands the importance and appropriate utilization of teams and teamwork in achieving business objectives; fosters teamwork and collaboration; demonstrates ability to mold and build team spirit, working relationships, and decision-making processes required in a dynamic and competitive business environment
  • Supports gap closure and continuous improvement activities by providing technical expertise, engineering calculations, and justifications for new projects and participating in capital, expense and special project scope development, execution, support and training
  • Develops and maintains a Long-Range Capital plan for the Utility operating units
  • Collaborates with Operations to identify new opportunities to remove constraints to maximize on stream time and profitability while ensuring safe, environmentally complaint, reliable operations
  • Provides technical expertise during troubleshooting, turnarounds, startups, shutdowns, catalyst changes and other non-routine unit activities
  • Reviews engineering calculations to quantify environmental and releases
  • Balances day-to-day operational priorities with long term strategic objectives to ensure alignment with company goals
  • Determines causes of deviations in quality, capacity, yield, and energy consumption
  • Leads and/or engages in efforts to build a strong LyondellBasell brand

Areas of Expertise
  • Understanding of major utility stream generation including high purity water/steam treatment and waste water treatment is preferred
