COLLECTIVE BARGAINING UNIT: This position is in a collective bargaining unit.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: This position is located in the Office of the Chief Financial Officer (OCFO), Office of Tax and Revenue (OTR), Office of the Taxpayer Advocate. The incumbent serves as team lead responsible for assisting the supervisor with aiding taxpayers in resolving unusual, complex, or urgent matters related to District individual income, real property, and business taxes. Duties include, but are not limited to: providing assistance to citizens, tax and legal professionals, and government representatives regarding business, individual income, real property taxes, fees, and a broad range of technical tax information; researches District tax codes, regulations, policies, tax forms, etc. to educate taxpayers on their rights and responsibilities in fulfilling their tax obligations; assisting staff members with performing a variety of duties and responsibilities related to complex tax issues, focused on providing excellent customer service; and distributing and balancing the workload amongst other employees and assuring timely accomplishment of the assigned workload. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications Four (4) years of progressive experience performing duties related to assisting taxpayers with income tax preparation and resolving complex tax issues; knowledge of tax codes, regulations and tax publications to provide technical guidance; determining tax liabilities; and educating taxpayers on their rights and responsibilities to fulfill tax obligations. Must have excellent communication skills both written and oral. Knowledge of federal, state and/or local tax laws.
Specialized ExperienceExperience that provides the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for this position.
