Job Description Summary
The I&C (Instrumentation & Controls) Mechanical Design Engineer works within the I&C Engineering team of the GE Hitachi (GEH) Engineering organization. The I&C team is responsible for designing and implementing I&C electronic hardware and software for I&C systems for Nuclear Power Plants. The I&C System team has strong interfaces with electronic hardware design and plant system operations. This role requires technical problem solving, strong mechanical skills and effective communication/collaboration with other teams within the GEH business functions. This position is for the mechanical design of cabinets/cable routing for retrofit applications.

The work location for this role is Wilmington, NC (relocation assistance provided if not already local).

Job Description

Essential Responsibilities:
  • The I&C System/Mechanical Engineer is responsible for the delivery of high-quality engineering mechanical cabinet drawings utilized in the retrofit applications of new I&C Electronic System replacement. Work scope typically includes the following essential responsibilities:
  • Develop creative solutions and reduce complexity to create accurate and effective solutions for complex engineering problems.
  • Typical System/test activities will include preparing design specifications and developing mechanical drawings utilizing AutoCAD and Inventor tool suit. These cabinet drawing will include mechanical layout and cable routing solutions.
  • Engage customers to define scope, review results, and discuss technical risks.
  • Work with the technical leader to establish an effective work plan, including time estimates, schedule estimates, requirements and work processes.
  • Apply engineering fundamentals and 1st order engineering principles to establish and/or confirm expected performance.
  • Provide clear and complete analysis documentation in accordance with GE engineering procedures.
  • Manage time effectively to provide quality deliverables within the expected project timeline. Communicate effectively to leadership the status of work activities.
  • Effectively manage multiple priorities.


Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum 4 years of mechanical design or systems engineering experience
  • Minimum 2 years of experience with AutoCAD, inventor or similar mechanical software tool suites.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in mechanical drawing/drafting development.
