Job Purpose

The Lead Construction Supervisor plays a key leadership role in delivering safe, reliable, and high-quality construction and maintenance projects that support critical energy infrastructure and customer service. Reporting to the Manager, this position provides oversight and direction to external contract construction crews, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with company, regulatory, and environmental standards.

The Lead Construction Supervisor partners closely with contractors, internal stakeholders, and field personnel to coordinate daily activities, maintain high standards of workmanship, and ensure projects are executed on schedule and with a strong focus on safety and customer satisfaction.

Beyond day-to-day operations, this position serves as a mentor and resource for developing supervisors and team members, helping to build leadership capability and strengthen organizational performance. The Lead Construction Supervisor also collaborates with management on workforce planning, scheduling, resource allocation, and strategic job assignments, offering significant opportunities to influence business outcomes while advancing their own professional growth and leadership career.

Key Accountabilities

• Coordinate the daily activities of assigned external contractors performing construction, maintenance and restoration work associated with electric utility, civil and electrical construction. Work in unison with other National Grid departments to ensure a seamless transition of work.
• Monitor job progress, document crew activities and prepare reports.
• Assure that high standards of safety, security and environmental compliance are consistently followed at assigned work locations.
• Fully understand the assigned project scope and contract work authorization details. Interface with project stakeholders to ensure job commitments are delivered on time and within budget.
• Ensure company guidelines and procedures, standards, and environmental and safety regulations are consistently adhered to. Assure compliance to all applicable Federal, state, local and National Grid guidelines, laws and regulations.
• Provide quality assurance that the work being performed is per National Grid specifications, standards and applicable contractual documents.
• Work with other supervisors and departments to review engineering drawings and technical specifications. Survey site locations for constructability considerations, confirm proper permits and licenses are available prior to work start and attend project meetings as requested.
• Document contract crew activities prepare and present periodic oral and written update reports and verify the accuracy of contractor invoicing. This will include ensuring adherence to contract documents to completion and monitoring change orders and reasoning. Report on job progress utilizing a web-based reporting database.
• Ensure successful performance of assigned contract crews and help to encourage a "continuous improvement" field work environment within a performance-based culture.

Qualifications

• Candidates must have 7+ years of progressively responsible construction, utility construction, military, or related experience (utility experience preferred) OR a Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline.
• Knowledge of OSHA, environmental, and construction safety regulations.
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, schematics, and contract documents.
• Understanding of construction methods, equipment, and job-site hazard mitigation.
• Strong problem-solving, organizational, and time management skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
• Willingness to travel throughout the service territory and work extended hours during emergencies or critical project needs.

More Information

Salary: $124,000 - $145,000 per year
