Overview
The selected candidate will be responsible for leading a design team for deliverables associated with Protection & Control substation projects supporting one of our largest electric utility clients in Southern California. The deliverables include one-line & three-line diagrams, AC & DC elementary & logic diagrams, front & rear panel elevations and wiring, supervisory & control drawings, electrical vendor equipment wiring diagrams, complete cable schedule and bill of materials. The successful candidate will report directly to the Substation Engineering Manager
Responsibilities
- Leads substation P&C design team, including the preparation of field notes, drawings, specifications, and estimates, staffing plan and project schedules.
- Serve as the technical lead for P&C substation projects from conceptual design through detailed engineering.
- Assign engineering tasks and coordinate workload among engineers, designers, drafters, and supporting disciplines.
- Performs careful QA/QC review activities submitted by junior engineers to ensure a quality product.
- Communicate and coordinate project activities with project manager, client, and others as needed.
- Ensure all designs conform to client and industry standards.
- Utilize client and/or company information system to track and update design activities.
- Attend job site meetings to gather scope of work.
- May provide field support during construction.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
(Required)
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from an ABET approved college or university.
- 10+ years of experience working in substation design or similar with utility or consulting engineering firm.
- Experience managing multiple projects in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Experience performing quality reviews of substation engineering drawing packages.
- Strong knowledge of substation systems (up to 500 kV), protection and control
- Proficient using Microsoft Office suite (e.g., Excel, Word, and Outlook).
- Strong analytical, problem-solving skills, and attention to detail.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD, Bluebeam, MicroStation, or similar design tools. • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Qualifications (Preferred)
- Professional Engineer’s License in Electrical Engineering preferred but not required.
- Experience with substation design and construction standards for electric utilities in California is highly desirable.
