Responsibilities

  • Serves as the global expert in one or more Lab technical skill sets.
  • Provides technical leadership, driving consistency and competency through standardization of testing methods across Labs.
  • Communicates technical information in a manner which drives clear understanding, consistency and validity.
  • Identifies coaching, training and safety awareness opportunities and focuses on knowledge sharing.
  • Establishes specific criteria for competency skill sets for all Laboratory staff.
  • Advances global safety through identification of risks, and by collaborating with Labs & Operations Leadership to implement risk management strategies.
  • Determines effective ways to build safety into the testing process.
  • Leads by example, always making safety the number one priority.
  • Stays up to date on the latest technologies pertaining to skill set responsibilities.
  • Understands and shares new and updated technologies to help the Labs organization prepare for future staff and equipment needs.
  • Identifies how changes in the industry may disrupt the testing currently being performed.
  • Identifies opportunities for process efficiency through digitalization and automation.
  • Assists leaders in driving standardization and reducing the complexity of testing.
  • Engages in continuous improvement through application of Lean principles, increasing capacity and generating cost savings by eliminating waste.
  • Participates in the selection process for Regional Laboratory Technical Lead (RLTL) and Designated Laboratory Technical Lead (DLTL) candidates and takes a lead role in their technical development.
  • Develops training with clear learning objectives, addressing skill set specific criteria.
  • Partners with learning experts to develop creative approaches for training individuals who are primarily hands on learners.
  • Works with PrEs and other responsible Conformity Assessment Services (CAS) staff to determine test methods, equipment needs and skills requirements resulting from changes or additions to technical requirements.
  • May provide support, participating as a technical representative in internal meetings and committees.
  • Reads and follows the UL Solutions Codes of Conduct and follows all physical and digital security practices.
  • Performs other duties as directed.


Qualifications

  • University Degree in Engineering required. Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or HVAC Engneering preferred.
  • 10+ years of directly related experience with datacenter power and/or cooling.
  • Experience with datacenter component testing preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to coach and train others. Good writing and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in English. Speaks credibly in area of own expertise with ability to communicate technical information in a non-technical way.
  • Able to develop and present training materials using a variety of methods (group presentations, video, etc.).
  • Detailed knowledge of UL Solutions Laboratory operations and technical vocabulary common to involved skill sets.
  • Working knowledge of UL basic safety principles.
  • Working knowledge of involved test methods.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply technical knowledge in areas of expertise, including application to complex, new or unusual product testing. Working knowledge of involved industry issues, needs and problems.
  • Working knowledge of ULs Conformity Assessment Services, Follow-up Services and Standards development process.
  • Ability to perform as a respected technical resource for peers, management and constituency.

What we offer:
  • Total Rewards: We understand compensation is an important factor as you consider the next step in your career . The estimated salary range for this position is $142,000-189,000 and is based on multiple factors, including job-related knowledge/skills, experience, geographical location, as well as other factors. This position is eligible for annual bonus compensation with a target payout of 20% of the base salary. This position also provides health benefits such as medical, dental and vision; wellness benefits such as mental and financial health; and retirement savings (401K) commensurate with the standard rewards offered in each individual location or country. We also provide full-time employees with paid time off including vacation (15 days), holiday including floating holidays (12 days) and sick time off (80 hours).
