The OpportunitySeeking an experienced Lead Protection and Control Technician to support utility transmission and substation projects throughout Odessa, TX. Candidates with experience in breaker testing, transformer testing, CT/PT testing, commissioning, and substation maintenance are strongly preferred.
What You'll Do- Lead commissioning, installation, and maintenance of protective relaying equipment, DFRs, SCADA systems, and automation systems.
- Perform advanced end-to-end relay testing using Doble Protection Suite, Omicron Test Universe, and RTS.
- Execute functional and scheme testing: reclosing, breaker failure, advanced logic, and communication-assisted protection schemes.
- Troubleshoot and optimize protocols including DNP3, Modbus, 8979, using tools such as Wireshark, Accelerator, and ASE 2000.
- Develop and refine standardized commissioning and testing procedures.
- Mentor junior technicians and oversee field execution for safety and quality.
- Partner with clients, vendors, and engineering teams to deliver world-class reliability.
Preferred Experience - 5+ years field experience in relay testing, calibration, and substation commissioning without direct supervision.
- Expertise in three-phase power systems, protection schemes, and SCADA integration.
- Proficiency with Omicron, Doble, Vanguard, and related test equipment.
- Skilled in RTS, Test Universe, Protection Suite, and Accelerator.
- Strong leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel.
