Full Job Description
The Opportunity

Seeking an experienced Lead Protection and Control Technician to support utility transmission and substation projects throughout Odessa, TX. Candidates with experience in breaker testing, transformer testing, CT/PT testing, commissioning, and substation maintenance are strongly preferred.

What You'll Do
  • Lead commissioning, installation, and maintenance of protective relaying equipment, DFRs, SCADA systems, and automation systems.
  • Perform advanced end-to-end relay testing using Doble Protection Suite, Omicron Test Universe, and RTS.
  • Execute functional and scheme testing: reclosing, breaker failure, advanced logic, and communication-assisted protection schemes.
  • Troubleshoot and optimize protocols including DNP3, Modbus, 8979, using tools such as Wireshark, Accelerator, and ASE 2000.
  • Develop and refine standardized commissioning and testing procedures.
  • Mentor junior technicians and oversee field execution for safety and quality.
  • Partner with clients, vendors, and engineering teams to deliver world-class reliability.

Preferred Experience
  • 5+ years field experience in relay testing, calibration, and substation commissioning without direct supervision.
  • Expertise in three-phase power systems, protection schemes, and SCADA integration.
  • Proficiency with Omicron, Doble, Vanguard, and related test equipment.
  • Skilled in RTS, Test Universe, Protection Suite, and Accelerator.
  • Strong leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel.
