This Opportunity

WSP, a world-class multi-disciplinary engineering consulting firm, is seeking an experienced Lead Professional - Fire and Life Safety Engineering specializing in Fire Alarm design and applications for our Los Angeles, CA or Irvine, CA offices. We work closely with architects and owners from around the world on large, complex projects with a focus on sustainability and energy performance of the built environment.

Our engineers work on high quality, high-profile, national and international projects. The Lead Consultant will be an integral member of our national Fire & Life Safety specialty practice. It is anticipated that this position will be responsible as a subject matter expert regarding fire alarm systems and applicable Codes.

Your Impact
  • Interpretation of building code, life safety, and fire code requirements. This will include familiarity with both ICC and NFPA codes, including IBC and NFPA 101.
  • Negotiating with authorities having jurisdiction on fire safety designs and proposals.
  • Provide subject matter expertise throughout the West Region for fire alarm applications including, but not limited to, fire detection, alarm notification, mass notification, emergency responder radio systems, fire alarm interfaces for smoke control systems, etc.
  • Producing fire alarm/life safety strategy documents with limited guidance to inform and support the chosen building form throughout the design process.
  • Design of fire alarm/life safety systems.
  • Commissioning of fire alarm/life safety systems in various facilities.
  • Directly interfacing with clients.
  • Organizing in-house resources.
  • Following quality control review processes of all project documentation.
  • Developing project proposals and budgets.
  • Mentoring junior staff.
  • Conducting fire alarm system related marketing and educational presentations to clients and staff.
  • Preparing technical reports/specifications.
  • Participating in department initiatives.
  • Review of architectural drawings for compliance with building and fire code requirements
  • Contributing to the overall business development of the company.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications
  • 7 to 10 years of relevant post education experience in engineering discipline and prior fire and life safety design experience.
  • The appropriate candidate will have at least one of the following:
    • Bachelor of Science Degree in Fire Protection Engineering, or related engineering discipline with a P.E. license
    • NICET Level III with a minimum of 8 years of fire alarm industry experience.
  • Supervisory experience is highly desirable.
  • Experience in fire protection engineering design applications.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Compensation:

Expected Salary (all locations): $114,000 - $157,000

WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location. WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant's sex or other status protected by local, state, and/or federal law.
