About the jobAt Twilio, we are shaping the future of communications, empowering millions of developers and hundreds of thousands of businesses globally to build personalized customer experiences. We are looking for an exceptional, senior-level Staff Product Designer (L4) to join our Channels UX team and serve as the core design leader for Twilio's Voice Products. In this role, you will own the user experience for our global cloud communications primitives and real-time voice infrastructure. This includes critical systems like Programmable Voice, Elastic SIP Trunking, and Call Telemetry/Insights. You will join a high-impact team that oversees all of Twilio's foundational communications channels, including Messaging, Email, and Voice, helping us treat channels agnostically to design cohesive, multi-channel journeys. This is a rare opportunity to drive the end-to-end design strategy for highly complex, technical developer tools and real-time streaming architectures as they integrate into Twilio's modern One Console ecosystem. You won't just paint screens; you will serve as a foundational systems thinker, shaping information architecture, naming frameworks, and developer workflows that establish long-term trust and usability for builders worldwide. You will design the foundational primitives that enable high-impact integrations with Twilio's broader conversational AI portfolio, ensuring a seamless experience for developers building modern, intelligent voice workflows.
Responsibilities- Lead End-to-End Voice Design: Own the complete user journey for Twilio Voice products, translating sophisticated telecom abstractions (SIP, WebRTC, real-time media streams, and turn-taking latency) into clean, logical, and delightful developer experiences.
- Drive Cross-Channel Coherence: Collaborate with design peers across Messaging and Email to build an omnichannel, channel-agnostic observability and configuration narrative inside One Console.
- Formulate Systems Architecture: Shape mental models, complex configuration wizards, and underlying information architectures. Champion rigorous design paradigms to navigate complex, multi-layered technical landscapes.
- Design for Platform Interoperability: Partner closely with design peers across the Conversations and AI product teams to ensure Twilio Voice seamlessly integrates with advanced conversational tools (like ConversationRelay) and AI capabilities, building cohesive end-to-end user journeys where these platforms intersect.
- Uphold Craft Excellence & Governance: Actively participate in, facilitate, and scale the UX Design Feedback Process, taking work from concept through formal Design Reviews and Cross-Functional Product Experience Reviews. Mentor junior designers and establish 'gold standard' craft expectations.
- Partner Vertically and Horizontally: Establish a leadership-to-leadership operating model with Product Managers, Engineering Leads, and Architects to build shared roadmaps, negotiate technical constraints, and ensure high-fidelity design execution.
Qualifications Twilio values diverse experiences from all kinds of industries, and we encourage everyone who meets the required qualifications to apply. If your career is just starting or hasn't followed a traditional path, don't let that stop you from considering Twilio. We are always looking for people who will bring something new to the table!
*Required:Work schedule: Full-time, US-based, remote
- 8+ years of professional product design experience specifically focused on highly technical software products, developer tools, infrastructure, or complex B2B/SaaS platforms.
- A strong, exhaustive portfolio demonstrating structural systems thinking, data-driven design decision-making, and deep individual product design craft.
- Proven cross-functional influence: Demonstrated success partnering directly with engineering and product leaders to navigate organizational complexity, align cross-product touchpoints, and handle competing priorities in fast-evolving environments.
- Comfort with Ambiguity: A self-starter who thrives when thrown into highly complex, loosely-defined technical spaces and is capable of building clear frameworks out of abstract constraints.
- AI-Powered UX Mindset: We're building a UX team that's thoughtful about how AI is changing the way products are built, as well as how our work gets done. We expect UXers to be curious about AI-powered tools and workflows, and to use emerging technologies thoughtfully to improve speed, quality, and impact. We're looking for people who can help us evolve our practice as these tools and expectations continue to change.
Desired:- Designed for Developers: Practical experience designing interfaces for technical builders (APIs, SDKs, CLIs, and configuration consoles).
- Real-Time Telemetry/Observability Experience: Prior background designing high-density data visualizations, live charts, error logging systems, or diagnostics dashboards.
- Direct Engineering Fluency: Experience utilizing modern code-modification or prototyping AI tools or familiarity safely contributing directly to front-end code repositories.
