Lead Policy Analyst (Hybrid)

Washington, D.C.

We have an opportunity at our corporate offices in Washington D.C. for a Lead Policy Analyst (Hybrid) on our Digital Health & AI team. This is a hybrid position reporting into our Washington, DC office, requiring 3 days a week in the office at 25 Massachusetts Avenue, NW, Washington, DC [redacted] USA.

This role leads policy work related to Digital Health and AI, including drafting reports and briefs for leadership, monitoring legislation and regulations, recommending changes or building AMA responses, and implementing key programs. This role is responsible for researching and developing policies that advance the understanding of Digital Health and AI among physicians. Additionally, this position acts as a liaison with internal business units and external partners on Digital Health and AI policy initiatives.

This role requires specialized depth and/or breadth of expertise in their job discipline or field. This role leads others to solve complex problems and works independently, with guidance in only the most complex situations. May lead functional teams or projects

RESPONSIBILITIES:

AMA Policy Development and Research
  • Develop and shape AMA policy positions on digital health and AI policy; recommend new policies and assist in the development of corresponding AMA strategies, polices and initiatives.
  • Develop policy reports, reviews, position statements, comment letters, written testimonies, and presentation materials to influence the policy landscape.
  • Analyze and prepare correspondence and briefing materials for Senior Management and AMA offices on key digital health and AI issues.
  • Monitor state and federal legislative and regulatory digital health and AI developments and develop guidance for physicians on the implications of these developments.
  • Create and contribute to new and updated educational and communications resources and events


Internal and External Relationships
  • Collaborate with internal business units to foster and maintain effective relations with relevant entities, including Sections and Federation societies to advance shared priorities that align with the AMA position on issues related to digital health and AI.
  • Collaborate with internal business units such as Advocacy, Enterprise Communications and Center for Optimal Health Outcomes to ensure consistent and appropriate messaging to stakeholders.
  • Contribute to the planning and implementing convenings, briefings, conferences, and presentations related to digital health policies.
  • Build and maintain external relationships including but not limited to medical specialty societies, industry stakeholders, and coalitions.
  • Represent the AMA at external meetings as needed.
  • Assist in the management of AMA coalitions.

REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Bachelor's degree required, master's degree strongly preferred
  2. 7+ years of experience in healthcare policy analysis in an academic, government, corporate or non-profit settings required
  3. Proven ability to write, analyze, develop, and/or influence public policy is required.
  4. Knowledge of digital health and AI trends in the healthcare industry required.
  5. Knowledge of data privacy and HIPPA highly preferred.
  6. Demonstrated ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders and synthesize multiple viewpoints into actionable recommendations.
  7. Proven ability to conduct in-depth policy research and analysis, incorporate expert perspectives, and translate complex issues into clear, concise, and well-supported written materials for a variety of audiences.
  8. Strong project management and communication skills with experience leading or influencing multistakeholder deliberations.
  9. Proven analytical, evaluative, and critical thinking skills to build solid policy recommendations.
  10. Excellent interpersonal skills to develop and maintain internal and external relationships including the ability to interface effectively with people of varying disciplines, backgrounds, and expertise.
  11. Polished speaking and presentation skills to externally represent the AMA at conferences and other events.
  12. Politically savvy.
  13. Some travel required.

This role is an exempt position, and the salary range for this position is $109,866- $145,344. This is the lowest to highest salary we believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. An employee's pay within the salary range will be determined by a variety of factors including but not limited to business consideration and geographical location, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
