Job Description:

L3Harris Technologies has an opening for a Lead, Mechanical Engineer to support a growing missile warning/missile defense business. The ideal candidate for this position has extensive knowledge of EO/IR payload design that can be implemented in low size, weight, and power (SWaP) space systems. Candidate will provide direct contributions and act as a technical lead in mechanical design, analysis, integration into flight hardware, IRAD development and future pursuits.

Essential Functions:
  • Provide technical leadership for team of mechanical engineers in the areas of payload mechanical architecture, Cryogenic optical design, Cryocooler implementation, mirrors and mounts and optical alignment/focus management.
  • Ensure that L3Harris mechanical engineering design standards and processes are followed.
  • Ensure that overhead budgets are met
  • Ensure that the mechanical designs of the group meet requirements and satisfy design for assembly and test needs.
  • Lead team on new proposal bids to guide concept, BOE and BOM development.
  • Develop our technology to push our designs forward for lower mass, lower cost, higher performance.
  • Collaborate across functions to minimize gaps in requirements, responsibilities and payload performance.
  • Ability to obtain a Secret security clearance


Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Aerospace or Mechanical engineering and minimum 9 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 7 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 13 years of prior related experience.
  • 5+ years of experience leading a technical team
  • Experience working with government contracts, requirements, and compliance
  • Experience with payload level design and development of mechanical architecture

  • DOD Secret Clearance preferred
  • Optical space payload design experience
  • Experience with functional management of a team of engineers
  • Creo design experience
