Lead Mechanical Engineer - onsite at one of these locations: Chelsea, MI, Versailles, KY, or Lebanon Junction, KY

JOB SUMMARY:

Responsible for leading a small team of machinists with the ability to fabricate and design various frequently used parts for our equipment, stand up and manage a department that will make and inventory frequently used parts for a multiple facility company.

  • Manage a small team of machinists, coaching, setting priorities and effectively meeting department expectations and priorities.
  • Utilize our company maintenance system to identify "High Volume" items that can be produced internally, understand the re-order quantities and determine minimum qty to inventory in a central location.
  • Machine parts to specifications using machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, and grinders and train team members to utilize this equipment.
  • Efficiently and accurately produce parts to include determining appropriate machine tools to use; calculating where to cut or bore; determining how fast or slow workpiece is fed into machine; determining how much material to remove; selecting tools and materials for the job; planning the sequence of cutting and finishing operations; monitoring and controlling feed rate and speed; ensuring workpiece is properly lubricated and/or cooled; and regulating temperature of workpiece.
  • Set up, adjust, or operate specialized machine tools used to perform precision machining operations and teach others to do the same.
  • Measure, examine, or test completed units to check for defects and ensure conformance to specifications, using precision instruments, such as micrometers.
  • Review electronic or written blueprints or specifications for a job.
  • Responsible for maintaining a safe and clean work environment to include complying with OSHA standards and maintaining equipment to applicable code.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Associate's degree in related field required or combination of experience and education equivalent to five years of related experience required.
  • Experience supervising or leading a small team preferred.
  • Knowledge of CAD and scanning equipment
  • Knowledge and experience using Microsoft Office products
  • Ability to lead our CNC internal program
  • Demonstrated experience reverse engineering parts from physical samples - not just programming from existing drawings
  • Working knowledge of FDM 3D printing: machine operation, slicer software, material selection, and print troubleshooting
  • Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.
  • Expert in machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, and grinders.
  • Ability to consistently and effectively work independently with little or no direction and follow up to complete assignments required.
  • Ability to demonstrate practical and technical knowledge of the job including an understanding of work instructions, processes, equipment, and materials to perform the job required.
  • Ability to consistently and effectively complete work and required paperwork thoroughly, accurately, and neatly following established processes and procedures required.
  • Ability to consistently and effectively demonstrate initiative and creativity; teamwork and cooperation; and adhere to and comply with all company and environmental, health, and safety policies, procedures, and work rules required.
  • Ability to direct others, train and coach individuals with their performance.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with various people across the company at various levels.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Sit or stand for extended periods at a desk or workstation
  • Regular walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, and crouching
  • Basic hand-eye coordination
  • Repetitive motions that may include wrists, hands, and/or fingers
  • Routine ability to lift or move loads up to 10-20 pounds, with occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds.
