Job Description

WSP is currently seeking a Lead Mechanical Engineer - Healthcare to join our Property & Buildings team. This role will focus on leading the mechanical design and delivery of complex healthcare projects, including acute care hospitals, medical office buildings, outpatient facilities, ambulatory care centers, specialty treatment facilities, and research environments.

This position offers the opportunity to lead multidisciplinary teams, mentor engineering staff, collaborate directly with clients, and help grow WSP's healthcare practice across the region.

Your Impact

As a Lead Mechanical Engineer, you will:
  • Lead the planning, design, and delivery of HVAC and mechanical systems for healthcare and life sciences facilities.
  • Serve as the mechanical lead on large, complex healthcare projects from concept through construction administration.
  • Develop innovative and energy-efficient solutions that meet healthcare operational, regulatory, and patient care requirements.
  • Collaborate closely with architects, owners, contractors, medical planners, and multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Prepare and oversee mechanical system calculations, technical specifications, reports, and construction documents.
  • Lead quality reviews to ensure compliance with project requirements, industry standards, and WSP quality expectations.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior and mid-level engineers.
  • Participate in business development efforts, client relationship management, and project pursuits.
  • Support project planning, staffing, budgeting, and execution to achieve successful delivery outcomes.
  • Coordinate construction administration activities including RFIs, submittals, field observations, and commissioning support.
  • Stay current on healthcare codes, standards, and emerging technologies affecting the healthcare market.
  • Contribute to the continued growth of WSP's healthcare engineering practice.


Who You Are

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or closely related discipline
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
  • 7+ years of mechanical engineering experience with significant healthcare project experience.
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC system design for hospitals, medical office buildings, laboratories, and healthcare facilities.
  • Experience designing central utility plants, chilled water systems, heating hot water systems, medical gas systems, and specialized healthcare environments.
  • Thorough understanding of:
    • ASHRAE Standards
    • FGI Guidelines
    • NFPA Codes
    • Joint Commission requirements
    • Local and state healthcare regulations
  • Proficiency with Revit, AutoCAD, and mechanical design software.
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary project teams and managing client relationships.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.


Preferred Qualifications
  • 10+ years of healthcare design experience.
  • Experience serving as Engineer of Record on major healthcare projects.
  • LEED Accredited Professional (LEED AP).
  • Experience with sustainability-focused healthcare design.
  • Previous experience mentoring and developing engineering staff.
  • Demonstrated success in project management and business development activities.

Compensation:

Expected Salary (all locations): $110,700 - $164,450

WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location.
