Job DescriptionSedgman is currently recruiting for a Lead Mechanical Designer, with hands-on experience on projects ranging from conceptual design to detailed engineering. This person will be based out of our Vancouver office. The ideal incumbent will be a plant layout specialist who can develop cohesive facility designs that balance operational efficiency, constructability, maintainability and safety.
The Lead Mechanical Designer works on a diverse array of projects across the Mineral Processing industry. You'll be involved in the entire design process, from concept to detailed design, with a clear focus on
Plant Layout expertise. Key Responsibilities- Lead a team of designers to deliver detailed design of equipment and plant layouts from sketches or specification outlines in the mechanical field under direction of engineers
- Create 3D designs from complex, multidiscipline engineering concepts.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship, offering guidance on complex design challenges, modelling standards, and best practices.
- Conduct and lead design reviews, proactively identifying risks, resolving technical issues, and ensuring compliance with project specifications, relevant standards, and client requirements.
- Comply with the Change Management process for engineering design
- Prepare drawings of designs relating to plant, equipment, services or other facilities or structures.
- Participate in the development and continuous improvement of the Quality management process and system.
- Ensure engineering designs follow the standard Sedgman design workflows, systems and procedures
- Focus on meeting expectations for schedule, quality and client satisfaction
- Check drafting deliverables for accuracy, completeness and adherence to design specifications & intent.
- Apply attention and diligence to uphold quality standards, and client requirements, to complete tasks efficiently.
About You- Associate Diploma in CAD / Associate Degree in Engineering or equivalent.
- Must have 10+ years industry experience in a design / consultancy environment, with minimum 3 years supporting mining or mineral processing projects.
- Proven experience developing and coordinating full plant layouts for mining and mineral processing facilities
- Strong understanding of equipment arrangement, access requirements, material flow, maintenance considerations and operational efficiency.
- Demonstrated experience across multiple mining projects and plant sizes, with the ability to apply practical layout solutions from conceptual design through to detailed engineering.
- Strong expertise in Auto CAD 3D software (AutoCAD, Inventor, Advance Steel, Navisworks) is essential
- Ability to work autonomously.
- Previous MS Office skills

Salary Range: $115,000 - $135,000
