Lead Mechanic

Grade 8

*Starting salary will be between minimum and midpoint in the range.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

The candidate will be responsible for performing and leading others in a highly skilled mechanical maintenance environment. Will assist in planning and administration of projects, activities, and routine work under the direction of the Mechanical Systems Manager. Responsible for preventive, corrective, and predictive maintenance and operation of a variety of mechanical systems including Plant and Delivery Systems process equipment. The incumbent will supervise and direct other Mechanics in the installation and repair of all piping systems including water, air, oil, gas, chemical, steam and sewage. Oversees and performs maintenance, repair and installation of mechanical systems and components. Performs and oversees maintenance on other related process equipment including operational and maintenance checks on equipment for serviceability, functional ability, wear, lubrication, synchronization, alignment, adjustment, and related operating parameters. The individual may assume higher level supervisory duties during the absence of the Mechanical Systems Manager.

The position requires master-level experience with proficiency in performing tasks in a safe and efficient manner. Provides coordination with and supports other sections and organizational functions as required to maintain the plant and Delivery Systems. Leads projects and task teams which includes overseeing and managing contract work as required for maintenance and repair of major mechanical systems including, but not limited to pumps, boilers, carbon regeneration furnace, compressors, gear reducers, and other process mechanical equipment. The ability to supervise the work of others as well as the work of outside contractors is necessary.

Requirements

REQUIREMENTS

§ Completion of high school or a GED program. Completion of a college or vocational degree program is highly desirable; or any equivalent combination of experience, education and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities is acceptable.

§ Minimum of 2 years Mechanic I level or 8 years mechanical maintenance work experience in an industrial environment.

§ Knowledge of wastewater treatment facilities, process equipment, and pump stations is highly desirable. Thorough knowledge of occupational hazards and necessary safety precautions applicable to mechanical maintenance and repair work; skill in the use of tools and equipment necessary to perform various mechanical repair tasks; ability to interpret, prepare, review and work from sketches, schematics, drawings, specifications and equipment, systems and projects.

§ Ability to obtain a Masters/Journeyman License in Gas Fitting, Plumbing, HVAC through the Virginia Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation (DPOR).

§ Required to be on call when scheduled; must be able to work overtime as required to meet the needs of the plant.

§ Possession of a vehicle operator's license valid in the Commonwealth of Virginia is required.

§ Must be able to meet physical requirements of position to include extensive walking, bending, stooping, climbing of stairs and ladders, lifting and/or carrying up to 75 pounds.
