Lead Histotechnician - Pathology POSITION SUMMARYThe Supervising Histotechnician (Lead Histotechnician) is a key member of the pathology laboratory team, responsible for supervising and leading the histology department. This role involves managing a team of Histotechs, overseeing daily operations, ensuring the highest quality of histological work, and maintaining compliance with regulatory standards
What you will be doing- Provide leadership and guidance to a team of histotechnologists, including interviewing, training, mentoring, and performance evaluation.
- Ensure coverage for key laboratory functions including grossing, embedding, cutting, and staining.
- Monitor and review histological procedures and results to identify and address any issues or deviations.
- Oversee tissue processing, embedding, and microtomy, ensuring adherence to established protocols.
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to tissue processing. This may require being occasionally available after hours and/or weekends.
- Ensure proper staining techniques, including routine H&E staining, special stains, and immunohistochemistry (IHC).
- Experience with immunohistochemistry (IHC) and antibody validation activities is highly desirable, including the ability to support or perform validation of new antibodies.
- Conduct safety training and maintain a safe working environment.
- Help with SOP development and revisions.
- Collaborate with pathologists and researchers on special projects, providing technical expertise in histology.
- Stay updated with advancements in histotechnology and participate in the evaluation and implementation of new techniques and technologies.
- Build staff buy-in and maintain team engagement during operational changes, periods of growth, and organizational transitions.
- Communicate effectively with staff at all levels, address concerns professionally, and foster a positive, collaborative team culture.
- Help lead workflow, process, and operational changes while supporting staff in adapting to new procedures and expectations.
- Identify workflow inefficiencies and implement process improvements that enhance quality, productivity, turnaround times, and compliance.
- Support the evaluation and implementation of new procedures, processes, and operational initiatives to improve overall laboratory efficiency.
What you will bring to the team- Bachelor's degree in Histotechnology, Biology, or a related field. A Master's degree is preferred.
- Certification as a Histotechnologist (HT) or Histotechnician (HTL) from a recognized certifying agency.
- 1 year histology laboratory management experience required, 2+ years preferred.
- Experience with immunohistochemistry (IHC) and antibody validation activities is highly desirable.
- In-depth knowledge of histotechnology techniques, equipment, and quality control procedures.
- Experience identifying workflow inefficiencies and implementing process improvements that enhance quality, productivity, turnaround times, and compliance.
- Demonstrated ability to support or lead workflow, process, and operational changes and effectively assist staff in adapting to new procedures.

Compensation is depending on a number of factors including a candidate's qualifications, skills, competencies, or experience that may fall outside of the range shown
Pay Range: $83,200 - $91,500 per year
