Job Description Summary
The Services Instrumentation and Controls C10 / C35.6 engineer is responsible for designing , developing and testing Embedded Software (Firmware), platforms and systems that control safety critical functions for the BWRX-300 Small Module Reactor. This role requires technical problem solving, strong software and / or FPGA skills, and effective communication/collaboration with other teams within the GEH business functions.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate accountability for cost, schedule, quality, and technical accuracy of assigned tasks.
  • Prepare requirement specifications and design specifications, develop embedded firmware and application software, perform module and integrated testing, and creation of all associated documentation.
  • Engage customers to define scope, review results, and discuss technical risks.
  • Work with the technical leader to establish an effective work plan, including time estimates, schedule estimates, requirements and work processes.
  • Apply engineering fundamentals and 1st order engineering principles to establish and/or confirm expected performance.
  • Provide clear and complete analysis documentation in accordance with GE engineering procedures.
  • Manage time effectively to provide quality deliverables within the expected project timeline. Communicate effectively to leadership the status of work activities.
  • Effectively manage multiple priorities.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Computer Engineering from an accredited university or college. 
  • 6 years of experience in embedded software development including knowledge of common FPGA languages and software development tools (Version control, IDE9s, Debuggers, etc.).

Eligibility Requirements

  • For US - This role requires access to U.S. export-controlled information. If applicable, final offers will be contingent on ability to obtain authorization for access to U.S. export-controlled information from the U.S. Government.
  • For Canada GE will only employ those who are legally authorized to work in Canada for this opening.
  • For Canada - This position will report onsite to the Markham office 3 days a week.

Desired Qualifications

  • Knowledge and experience with common HDL languages (Verilog, System Verilog) and PLD/FPGA development tools (Quartus, Vivado, ModelSim, Questa, etc.).
  • Experience in nuclear design or equivalent highly regulated industry.
  • Competency in industry standards. IEEE, IEC, IPC, and quality.
  • Competency in modeling and test data collection tools.
  • Clear thinker, detail oriented, insightful, quantitative, balanced and a results-oriented analyst and leader.
  • Proven track record of delivering commitments on budget and schedule with high quality results.
  • Strong verbal communication, as well as facilitation and presentation skills for technical and business audiences 6 Able to communicate openly, calmly, and crisply in stressful situations.
  • Adaptive; able to quickly learn diverse and varying organizational interfaces with professional astuteness.
  • Continuous improvement mindset with an ability to identify, influence, and implement better ways to do an activity or process.
  • Solid technical writing skills with focus on requirements and design documents.
  • Knowledge and experience with PCB design, signal analysis and system verification tools (Altium, PSpice, System Verilog, UVM, etc.).

Relocation Assistance Provided:

For candidates applying to a U.S. based position, the pay range for this position is between $98,400.00 and $164,000.00. The Company pays a geographic differential of 110%, 120% or 130% of salary in certain areas. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate9s experience, education, and skill set.

Bonus eligibility: discretionary annual bonus.
