LJB Canada, Inc. is currently seeking a qualified candidate to fill a full-time Lead Environmental Monitor role for the Green Line LRT project in our Calgary, AB office. The ideal candidate will have 4+ years of experience working on transit or other infrastructure construction projects and possess the professional and interpersonal skills to make a positive impact on our firm and the clients we serve. We are looking for a motivated professional with a forward-thinking mindset, strong analytical problem-solving skills, and a collaborative spirit.

Annual Compensation: $92,000 - 120,000 based upon experience, certifications, and regional market standards.

LEAD ENVIRONMENTAL MONITOR ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Lead a team of environmental monitors who conduct site visits to oversee contractor compliance with their environmental management plan and contractual requirements.
  • Manage and raise concerns noted by our inspection team if environmental protocols are not being adhered to, including submission of incident reports.
  • Environmental construction inspection responsibilities include attending progress meetings and preparing weekly / daily inspection reports.
  • Lead the maintenance, updating, and review of tracking sheets/logs for risk registry, RFIs, submittals, working days, other issues, etc. and ensuring that relevant documents are provided and dealt with in a timely manner.
  • Maintain an up-to-date deficiency log and ensure all deficiencies are dealt with in a timely manner.
  • Communicate technical and non-technical information in a concise, professional manner, including participation in technical meetings and workshops with owners, contractors, and other stakeholders.
  • Analyze and interpret data and review environmental and technical reports.
  • Increase LJB's visibility in the industry by participating in regional initiatives, conferences, committees, and community associations, including any identified professional association activities.
  • Field based assignments will include shift work, weekday, night, and weekend work. Office based assignments will require a standard weekday business hours work schedule.


LEAD ENVIRONMENTAL MONITOR ESSENTIAL CREDENTIALS:

Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in relevant area of study required (environmental science, biology, or related field) or equivalent experience.
  • Professional designation in Alberta or eligibility for registration.

Qualifications:
  • 4+ years of relevant environmental management experience in the planning, design, and construction of a variety of infrastructure projects
  • Excellent problem solving, decision making, and teamwork skills.
  • Excellent technical writing skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong knowledge of provincial regulations and best practices in environmental management.
  • Fieldwork experience in environmental monitoring and construction management.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, contractors, and clients.
  • Ability to work independently, exercise independent judgment, interact with other project team members, collaborate with other disciplines, and mentor junior staff
