Full Job Description
The highest level of the non-Engineer degreed technical support role job classification is the Lead Technologist. Lead Engineering Technologists provide technical expertise to solve complex problems and utilize the leadership skills necessary to oversee the training and development of the hierarchy. Incumbents engage in strategic oversight and management of work in a specific area of expertise, with minimal supervision. Incumbents are expected to have advanced skills an ability to work independently. This position will support Dan River CC & Rockingham CT as the Distributed Controls System/Electrical System owner. Responsibilities • Provides technical expertise and guidance in the identification, analysis and resolution of complex problems in area of expertise with the ability to visualize long-term results and assess impacts on a system-wide basis. • Ensures accomplishment of business goals and objectives through effective planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling and monitoring of work activities where only limited standardization exists; handles differing situations which require searching for solutions within area of expertise. • Prepares thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations and sketches with the ability to conduct analysis and recommend process enhancements and standards relative to area of assignmen • Conducts engineering and related studies with full technical responsibility for planning and coordinating complex projects; applies extensive technical expertise to manage projects and disseminate knowledge to enhance the organizational unit's competitive position. • Possesses and applies a broad knowledge of principles, practices, and procedures; demonstrates ability to analyze and recommend enhancements to business processes and develops standards relevant to area of assignment. Keeps abreast of new developments, technologies procedures and equipment. • Develops positive working relationships to effectively coordinate work activities. Demonstrates effective oral and written communication skills. Maintains accurate records and files. • Supports the company's goals and represents the company positively and professionally. • Resolving emergent technical requests. • Maintaining plant Risk Grid for your systems/equipment. • Providing technical support for station managed Capital and O&M projects. • Oversight of projects managed by the Outage and Projects Support and COSO groups to assure the original intent of the project is met and appropriate stakeholders are given opportunity to help define scope and review design. • Develop the scope, technical basis, installation and testing requirements for design changes, which include but are not limited to AC power systems, DC power systems, Large AC motors, Transformers, Switchgear, Motor Control Centers, Voltage Regulators, Breakers, etc. • Manage the control/electrical system vendor contracts, including on-call support, maintenance, and parts agreements Basic / Required Qualifications • Associates Degree in Engineering Technology along with 8 years of related work experience • In Lieu of associates degree in Engineering Technology, High School Diploma / GED and 10 years of related work experience Additional Preferred Qualifications • Good written and oral communication skills. • Experience in the utility industry. • Demonstrates skills applying leadership in the areas of technical project management, program oversight and/or governance. • Skilled principles of project management. • Experience in the utility industry. • Department specific experience applicable to the hiring department. • Ability to apply basic principles of project management • Controls systems (Ovation, Mark VIE, T3000) • Combustion Turbine & Combined Cycle experience Specific Requirements • Demonstrated ability to work with a variety of individuals from various socio-economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds. • Good written and oral communication skills. • Either 6+ years of relevant industry experience coupled with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering or Engineering Technology, or 8+ years of experience and Associate Degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology, or 10+ years equivalent experience without a degree Working Conditions • Onsite Mobility Classification - Work will be performed at a company facility.
