Summary

The Lead Engineer, Hardware Test, plans and executes test of thermal and mechanical systems. Evaluating function and performance to specification of AI computing trays, racks, and related equipment.

Detailed Description

Performs tasks such as, but not limited to, the following:
  • Using your knowledge of heat transfer and fluid mechanics, with guidance from more senior engineers, develop and maintain a full understanding of the design and operating principles of thermal and fluid cooling systems for AI and other server racks.
  • Become familiar with and be able to operate In-Row and In-Rack Coolant Distribution Units (CDUs) to pump PG25 cooling liquid to racks and trays.
  • Perform hands-on tests: Operate CDUs and change operating parameters to meet operation and test needs. Assemble liquid connections to house chilled water (primary cooling loop) and to racks (PG25 in secondary cooling loop). Test flow, pressure, and temperatures to confirm operating parameters. Participate in monitoring and sustaining these units.
  • Interpret customer specifications and write thermal test plans.
  • With others, use cooling equipment with operating AI equipment to simulate field operation. Evaluate cooling performance over a wide range of parameters.
  • Report the thermal and fluids handling performance of Devices Under Test (DUTs).
  • Use lab instruments and sensors to measure and record data.
  • Use test data of measured variables to calculate results for the exact performance parameters being investigated.
  • Provide support to other groups testing mechanical and electrical and performance for equipment on the test floor. Be aware of the requirements of other groups who will run tests on equipment, and ensure thermal support such as a chilled water supply at the required flow rate and temperature.
  • Assemble test stands, select telemetry, install sensors, operate data acquisition equipment, and perform computer logging of data.
  • Learn thermal simulation software tools and be able to extract expected performance from simulation models.
  • Use scripts to extract data from the DUT computer system for use as thermal test data.
  • Report the thermal capability of the design to achieve product specifications.

Physical Demands

  • Duties of this position are performed in labs, test floors, and in a normal office environment.
  • Duties may require extended periods of standing and of assembling test stands, preparing hardware for test, and perfoming liquid connections.
  • Duties may require extended periods of sitting and sustained visual concentration on a computer monitor or on numbers and other detailed data.
  • Repetitive manual movements (e.g., data entry, using a computer mouse, using a calculator, etc.) are frequently required.
  • Occasional travel may be required.

Typical Experience

  • 1 to 3 years of related experienc;Experience in similar job roles

Typical Education

Bachelor degree or consideration of an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Educational Requirements may vary by Geography
