Job Description Summary
Essential Functions / Responsibilities:

Support the install base of HVDC (High Voltage Direct Current) and FACTS (Flexible AC Transmission Systems) systems with a focus on FSCs (fixed series capacitors). Lead technical aspect on multi-year service contracts for FACTS technologies, maintaining operation, maintenance and reliability of customer FACTS substation equipment. Actively promote a high level of customer satisfaction by maintaining open communication and providing pro-active attention to customer requirements. Provide insight on systems maloperation and equipment failure by analyzing event logs and transient records, and providing solutions to potential issues. Support site team during commissioning, maintenance and troubleshooting activities on FACTS systems, reviewing site plans and providing technical direction during site activities. Occasionally perform field work (i.e., testing, commissioning, troubleshooting, servicing, maintaining, and upgrading high voltage substation equipment and components of FACTS systems). Responsible for developing, performing and analyzing maintenance programs and testing procedures to maximize FACTS installations availability, reliability and performance. Review site reports from commissioning, maintenance and troubleshooting activities on FACTS systems. Provide project engineering insights, defining specifications for FACTS FSC systems. Provide technical support to Tendering team in procurement of FACTS devices and equipment. Perform detailed trade studies to define specifications for features and components.

Qualifications / Requirements:

Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, or related. Five (5) years of progressive experience in FACTS (Flexible AC Transmission Systems) and High Voltage power systems engineering. Academic background, internship, or work experience to include: FACTS and Power System controls and protection to include: PLC programming, Protection relay testing, and setting analysis; Troubleshooting FACTs and Power systems equipment using: event record, COMTRADE analysis software, and substation test equipment (e.g., multimeter, insulation resistance test set, and relay injection test kit); Commissioning of high voltage and substation equipment; Maintenance of high voltage and substation equipment including: inspection, electrical testing, and diagnosis of equipment (e.g.: circuit breaker, transformer, switchgears, capacitors, and disconnect switches); Event log and Comtrade analysis; Running power systems simulations to analyze system maloperation and equipment failure; and PLC Controls and related troubleshooting of PLC Controls. 100% remote position reporting to GE Vernova in Humble, TX. Candidate may live anywhere in the continental U.S. Approximately 20% domestic/international travel required to visit unanticipated client sites for commissioning, maintenance, and troubleshooting of FSCs, HVDC, or FACTS systems. Travel expenses paid by employer.
