- Lead mechanical design and specification of enclosure systems, structural assemblies, busbar support systems, insulation interfaces, short-circuit resistant mechanical assemblies, mechanical interlocks, doors, hinges, latching mechanisms, seismic features, and associated switchgear mechanical hardware to achieve safety, reliability, manufacturability, and serviceability objectives.
- Contribute to enclosure architecture development and lead definition of compartmentalization strategies, equipment layouts, accessibility, maintainability, cable routing concepts, and serviceability requirements in alignment with system architecture, safety, and operational objectives.
- Lead thermal engineering activities including airflow design, ventilation strategies, heat dissipation analysis, CFD modeling, temperature-rise assessment, and thermal validation testing to ensure compliance with applicable standards and product performance requirements.
- Lead concept development, prototype builds, design verification, pilot production, and production release activities.
- Drive engineering decisions that optimize product cost, performance, manufacturability, schedule, and quality.
- Lead design transfer, support manufacturing readiness reviews, provide production ramp support, and conduct engineering change implementation across global manufacturing sites.
- Ensure compliance with UL 891, UL 1558, NEC, IEC 61439, NEMA, and customer-specific requirements.
- Serve as the primary mechanical engineering interface for customers during design reviews, issue resolution, and product development activities.
- Lead DFx initiatives including Design for Manufacturing (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), Design for Reliability (DFR), Design for Automation (DfA), and VAVE activities.
- Oversee qualification testing including environmental, thermal, short-circuit, seismic, arc-flash, and safety evaluations.
- Support customer witness testing, FAT activities, and field issue resolution as required.
- Lead technical risk reviews, root-cause investigations, corrective actions, and continuous improvement efforts.
- Collaborate with global engineering, manufacturing, sourcing, quality, and regulatory teams.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor9s degree in mechanical engineering or related field.
- 10+ years of mechanical engineering experience, including 5+ years in low-voltage switchgear, switchboards, MCCs, or power distribution products.
