Job Description:

L3Harris is seeking a highly skilled and self-directed Lead Electrical Interconnect Engineer to join our Electrical Engineering team. The ideal candidate will bring deep experience in cable and harness design, interconnect architecture, fabrication support, integration, and test for complex electronic systems. This role is intended for a senior technical leader who can independently identify, prioritize, and execute the department's cable and interconnect work with minimal day-to-day oversight while providing direction and technical mentorship to other engineers.

Essential Functions:

  • Lead the architecture, design, review, integration, and support of cable harness assemblies and interconnect solutions for complex flight hardware, lab assets, and ground support equipment using electrical schematic capture and harness design tools such as Capital Harness, Xpedition, or PADS.
  • Own detailed interconnect definitions, cable drawings, wire lists, and related engineering documentation, ensuring accuracy, traceability, manufacturability, and configuration control.
  • Translate system and subsystem requirements into robust cable and interconnect designs, including conductor selection, shielding and grounding approaches, connector selection, power distribution, and environmental considerations.
  • Independently initiate and drive work within the cable and interconnect area, establish technical priorities, and execute assignments with minimal oversight or day-to-day guidance.
  • Provide day-to-day technical leadership, tasking, and work review for other engineers, helping grow team capability and maintain consistent engineering quality.
  • Lead change impact assessments for existing electronic systems and develop implementation approaches that minimize technical, schedule, and integration risk.
  • Partner with systems, mechanical, manufacturing, quality, supply chain, and test teams to resolve interface issues, support fabrication, and troubleshoot integration and test discrepancies.
  • Support and lead design reviews, peer reviews, root-cause investigations, and corrective actions associated with cable and interconnect hardware.
  • Establish and promote best practices, standard work, and reusable design approaches across the cable and interconnect discipline.
  • Maintain a high standard of technical judgment, attention to detail, ownership, and clear communication throughout the full product lifecycle.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree and minimum 9 years of prior electrical engineering and /or test engineering experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 7 years of prior electrical engineering and /or test engineering experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 13 years of prior electrical engineering and /or test engineering experience.

Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Extensive experience designing cable harness and interconnect solutions for aerospace, defense, or other high-reliability electronic systems.
  • Proficiency in electrical schematic capture and harness design tools, with preference for Capital Harness or Xpedition.
  • Strong understanding of DC power distribution, grounding, shielding, connector selection, and interconnect design best practices.
  • Working knowledge of cable fabrication, inspection, and test processes; DITMCO or comparable cable test experience is highly desirable.
  • Experience leading technical scope, decomposing work, and mentoring other engineers in a fast-paced development environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of engineering documentation, drawing release, and configuration and change management practices.
  • Ability to assess downstream effects of design changes and make sound decisions across cost, schedule, manufacturability, and system performance.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills during integration, qualification, and production support efforts.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient with MS Office Applications.
